Well I would rather hope it is the alternator than the WOOD.
In the process now of loosening the alternator, bit of a bugger from above.

Chaps, I have a result, took the fan belt off pushed the alternator away.
Went for my usual bumpy test run, BINGO, not a sound.
Admittedly I was rather worried re the wood, Phew!
Only thing that perturbs me is there does not seem to be any indication of any friction / rubbing. Off to get a slightly shorter belt anyway.

Oh and of course will have to strip the other side down now, to get a matching pair.

Pandy, thanks for the advice re Ear Plugs however I would have then had to distribute to all on the street, as it was rather an embarrassing situation.

I really appreciate all your time.

In case anyone is interested or for future reference the new belt is a 763mm x 10mm which gives enough clearance, the existing was a 775mm.
Next thing to do is to work out why my roadster bumper keeps coming loose even after a short run, just the near side though.

There’s a 1953 DHC at the back.

The Silver Roadster and Red 4/4 are mine.
The DHC and Ivory + 8 my Dads.
I restored the 4/4 and DHC for my Dad whilst he was overseas.

And the Mini was last year.
