I put fans in quotes for a simple reason.

At yesterday's funeral, one of my cousins, from Belfast, was in attendance. His younger brother has several RR (no not Range Rovers) from the 70s.
He also has an XJR-S - 6pot, 3.6 litre, turbo (I thought they only came in V12, 5.2 or the quicker TWR 6.0 litre).
Anyhow, said cousin may be about to dispose of (i.e. scrap) the car because he has spent a fair bit of time and money trying to resolve a problem with the powerplant (I suspect electrical - loom connection fault, but I haven't told him yet!).

So, I know the XJS was not a great favourite amongst Jag fans, but, did Jaguar produce the XJR-S in 3.6 turbo?? Or is this one someone has cobbled together - a google search only revelals the V12. I'd ask my cousin from Jaguar Land Rover, but it was before her time at Jaguar and sadly it was her funeral we attended yesterday.

Cheers,

I seem to recall that the smaller engine came out with the convertible? Not sure about the Turbo though.

I have found more info.
Just hope my cousin doesn't scrap the one at the bottom of the page, IF that's what he has...

3.6 and 4.0 litre straight six xjs were normally aspirated, doubt it's a turbo unless aftermarket, you can spot a 6 cyl bonnet by the raised centre section, the v12's are virtually flat, I have always hankered after a XJ12 Coupe or the Daimler version but now petrol is thirty bob a litre I'm cured

Yes, but it's the limited number of XJR-S I've been trying to get more info on. A tie up between Jaguar Sport and TWR.
Seems there weren't any non V12 models (apart perhaps from one prototype 3.6 twin turbo with a manual 5 speed).

Petrol here is below the 1.40 mark - wouldn't be doing a lot of miles in a car like this! smile

I wasn't aware of any TWR versions that weren't V12 but I can ask an aquaintance who is a bit of an anorak and ex Jag employee ( he recalled how they used to stick the manual V12 XJS in top gear then start the engine without dipping the clutch and once moving keep going until v- max ) laugh

No, I couldn't find any either. Turns out it's not one, but an XJR. Cousin who's been telling me about it says he doesn't get to see the back, just underneath or in the engine bay. As it's one of the saloons (XJ40 / X300, somewhere along those lines) I'm not that interested in it as a car. It's supercharged, not turbo. There is an impressive list of things they've tried so far - it goes into limp home mode after about 40miles, though this is getting shorter, sometimes as little as 10 mins driving. I've given him a couple of ideas, but these were based on the XJS V12. Thanks for the feedback Richard.

Cheers,

Sounds like throttle body if no other apparent symptoms. TBH its probably only worth scrapping...unfortunately.

Now if it was an XJS convertible they are rising in price sharply and in fact a good one costs more than a good older model XK8/R

XJ first series? This was the only car I know with a positive earth alternator. One of these resides now in my 4/4.
