We are considering coming to UK in Plus 4, having done the trip many times before in Motorhome and modern car was wondering if anyone has had problems with getting on and off ferries with the lack of clearance underneath, we are looking at Dunkirk Dover crossing. Some of the ramps look a bit steep and angled. I am sure many people have done this crossing, was wondering if it may be easier to go in the lorry deck which is a bit flatter.

I've not done the cross channel ferries with the morgan but plenty of times with my other cars and compared to the Scottish inter island Calmac ferries the ramp angles are nothing to worry about; my Morgan managed those last year without any problems.

Have had no problems with my 2009 Plus Four on Dover-Calais and Portsmouth-Le Havre.
The 'best' ground clearance problem I have seen was a rally prepped Porsche 911 that got stuck on the ramp on the sump guard with the back wheels just off the ground...it was sorted by a push from two huge ferry deck hands .

Gerry

Don't know the clearance difference on the Trad to Max, but went into a Multi storey Car-Park the other day with very steep ramps and the Max was no problem

Portsmouth Caen was no trouble with 4/4 Sport and likewise Channel Tunnel with Roadster although I went with the high vehicles outbound and lower deck of car coach homeward, the loader didn't think I'd clear the ramp to top deck.

The lower ferry in Dartmouth was a contact job on the Dartmouth side in my 97 +4 where the bracing bracket under the gearbox is the first point of contact.

I doubt though a channel ferry would be an issue.

No problems on Cairnrayan - Belfast ferry. On-off with no issues at all.

We did Portsmouth Caen with Brittany Ferries and I was very worried about ground clearance. We told the loading staff that we were worried about clearance. They were very helpfull and they had us wait near the trucks for a while and then loaded us on the main deck. It was a level run on. They directed us down one side and we stopped at the head of the column. When we arrived at Caen they let off the 4 trucks at the front in the center and then waved us off. I have never managed to get off a ferry so quickly before, it was fantastic.

In fact when we actually saw the loading ramp I don't think we would have had any problems. It was a long run up and I think the top entry onto the ferry would have been level too.

I have used the Dover/Dunkirk ferry with a Plus 4. I did catch the underside - probably the exhaust tailpipe. It wasn't bad enough to prevent me using it again this year.

Even if you don't ask, they'll probably put you with the wagons. You could ask if your passenger could board as a foot passenger to lighten the load.

Great replies as usual, many thanks to all, think I will ask to be put on with lorries, ground clearance is barely 90mm, which was supposed to be 100 in the spec. Thanks again.
