Hello All,

There seems to be some conflicting advice on the need for tourists to comply with an impending requirement for French drivers to carry breathalyser kits in their vehicles.

Here is a reply to an enquiry seeking clarification from the French Tourist Development Agency.

The word "should" scuppers any idea of a home made solution.

It would seem that the kits are likely to be widely available in garages, supermarkets and motoring outlets in France at about €1. The prices in the UK are pretty high and, it would appear, to be non compliant in the main.

I wonder which breathalyser manufacturer has a relative in the the French legastive?!

We're heading of in 2 weeks time so we've bought them to have with us as the whole things seems to be a little grey.

I don't think it's actually being enforced until later in the year. Gerry.

Yes July 1st was what I'd heard. We'll be coming back on 2nd so if it's like the UK - then there'll be an introduction period etc and probably a flurry of stops for a few days. Best to be safe and have it.

There is supposed to be a period of grace until November before fines are issued.
