I have been informed that I need to allow approx £700 on top of the price of a new Morgan for items such as delivery, number plates, road tax etc. Does this sound reasonable? If the bulk of this is delivery can anyone tell me if this charge can be avoided by picking up a new vehicle direct from the factory yourself?

Just bought an Audi A1 for my better half. Delivery excl road tax (eco car so there is none)and excluding government first registration fee was £491.66, and that's from Germany, so £700 does seem rather steep - unless you're located in Australia that is!

£870 registration & first year's Road Fund Licence for the 3.7 Roadster stars

You see trucks with the warning "Highway Maintenance". DVLA offices should be showing "Highway Robbery" mad2

Ok I'll chip in with my latest crackpot idea. I'm fancying a pair of later headrests with the Morgan logo embroidered in red......
It would look good.
So far so good.
I checked the price list on line and found that embroidered head restraints are £260and a bit for the pair.

Then it dawned on me that head restraints are standard. So if I've got this right, I must add the cost of the restraints on top.
A pair of MGB leather restraints of not dissimilar shape is a whiff under £140 the pair. So this makes me think that should I do the unthinkable and ask the price. it will be £400.
This is quite insane and I could never disclose such madness to swmbo

Do you think I've got the price about right? And that's on MGB prices so it could easily be another £100 on top.

I did think about red piping........ but the seats are all black so it would look a bit like trying too hard.........

Mind you If I could sell the old ones for a few quid it would be a useful offset

The good news is that the £815 tax ( £55 registration fee)
is first year only. It drops to a mere £450/year after that happy3

Someone somewhere in the 'nodding corridors' needs to propose in Parliament that the price of Road Fund Licence for 'occasional cars' should reflect that the majority of owners are operating other vehicles and already paying premium. Surely a reduction is reasonable. There seems to be no end to the fines for folks who are playing by the rules. Monsterous.

Gripe over soapbox
