Dear Lord Plus Faw of Kilgibbon, smile

I won't ask the reasons but I will follow your advice. This is a minefield. In my profession, everyone is called by their Surnames. I shall try to use Mr. from now on.

Thank you and Mr. Neilda for your patience and explanation. The public rebuke was a surprise.

Don't get all dramatic now, the closest I can see to a rebuke was:

And that was a comment and a question.

Everyone else was expressing their understanding of the same thing (or not), some even went so far as to give you the benefit of the doubt as Canadian English can be different to the Queens English.

I was quite surprised that in Italy interviewers on television often address even government ministers by their surname. Obviously it is considered quite normal and not disrespectful at all. Different language, different customs.

The President, the Presidents of both houses of government and Senators are addressed by their titles however. In the workplace it is traditional to address senior people by their professional qualification, ie. Engineer, Architect, etc. or if they have a doctorate in a non professional field of study they would be addressed as Dottor (Doctor) or Dottoressa.

BtG Boshly,

Customs are different here. Suddenly asking a crowd whether someone present is being "rude and disrespectful" would be seen as an insult. If it is a minor beef, we contact the person privately unless we want to start a fight.

What do your initials stand for? I can call you by your first name if you'd like.

What part of Canada are you from?

You can call me Boshly, Andy or even Darling if the mood takes you smile

If you look back I didn't ask whether you "were being rude and disrespectful" I asked if anyone else also found it "a tad disrespectful and rude" (you missed a bit out nono ) pedantic maybe but definitely different to how you are portraying it (I just can't seem to put my finger on who you remind me of thinking ).

Oh, and I am from the London part of Canada wink

Dear me! Time that this thread was left to subside to the bottom of the list where it belongs. All this bickering about semantics is starting to get on my nerves redcard

Ah! but perhaps the good thing about TM is that it does allow people to 'bicker'- in the sense that all views are welcome.
This is, I suggest in marked ( and welcome ) contrast to othert Mog sites where there is what might be termed a fairly draconian approach to diverse views- they simply runbbish them.
I for one don't want to toe the line when it's set out by someone called William G Sheep the Third
So, in the nicest sense, long live bickering cheers

regards,
G
