I wondered what peoples views are on bumpers, over riders or their complete absence.

I like the clean look of no bumpers or over riders, like on Pandy's very nice black 4-4 or Numog's gorgeous new Roadster. But I wan't some protection for the body work as I have had a few minor bumps in my time.

I always preferred over riders. Now, I think I prefer the full metal bumpers, such as Shiremog has fitted on his stunning red Roadster. They finish the car nicely and suit it as much as no bumpers at all. They also have a retro appeal and supply even more chrome to polish thumbs I think full metal bumpers would also look better if I decided to mount fogs at some point.

Interested to hear other opinions listening

David, I think you've hit the nail on the head when you mention the practicality of a full width bumper over none at all, or the overriders.

If you forced me to express my preference in order of most to least favourite, it would be: None, Overriders and Bumper. I prefer the clean look but like with many Morgan preferences, this has altered over time. Had to asked me the same question 5-years ago, I'd have said almost the reverse in order of preference! laugh2

As for the practical nature of the bumpers, I might suggest that whilst it would protect your body work, a dent in one of these bumpers looks pretty awful as well; therefore, there is a chance you'd find yourself getting your car fixed with or without bumpers. Unlike modern car bumpers that are meant to absorb low impact hits and bounce back, often unmarked, Morgan bumpers seem as much for show as any other part of the car; thus, whilst they serve a purpose, the cosmetic element will probably force you to want to keep them looking pristine.

I have to admit Simon that it is the look of the bumpers that attracts me most - practicality comes second. A dented bumper does look horrible and I would want to replace it - but, my line of thought is that it would be a lot cheaper to replace than a damaged front wing.

Hi Quicksilver,

If you have the latest style luggage rack it has a kind of bumper bar built into it. Fitting over rider bumpers on the front gives a good visual match for the front end.

Works well on my 4/4 Sport and they are less expensive to buy than full bumpers, plus pretty easy to fit too.

Thanks NorthernMogman. I think I know that style - the rack extends from over-riders on the rear. Looks pretty good.

My Roadster was 10 months old when I acquired it and came with over riders, if I was ordering a new car I'd spec bumpers at the front and over riders at the rear, you see a few early + 8's with this set up.

When my bumber wass damaged (my own foult) on my former +4 I took it off for repair. I found the look of the car a bit more hairy without it and never put it on again. When buying my Roadster in January it was fitted with overriders and foglamps and now I think that looks good.

The best of both worlds. But do over riders provide enough protection in the case of a rear end shunt?
