Hi -

This spring I purchased a 66 4-4 V Comp from a gentleman from the Los Angeles area. In my quest to learn the car's history, I contacted the previous owner. He told me he bought the car out of Texas in 1993 and moved it to LA area where he lived. It had been owned for several years prior by a movie director in Texas. but the person I bought it from in 2012 had no further information.

I do know the car was raced sometimeprior to 1993 (in Texas???) because it had racing screens installed on the cowl, mirrors on the wings, sun visors removed and stone guards were on the floor. It had also been given a Wecarbra two barrel carb with a Claude's Buggies (now CB Performance of California) filter housing . Everything else appears stock. The car was shipped from the factory to LA in primer coat. In LA the car was painted in a color close to Connaught green which it is today. I can't find evidence of any other color.

Your help in locating the Texas owner would very much appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome to Talk Morgan, see below for help in your quest for information, I do think it sounds like great fun and wish you luck. This place is rather helpful so I don't think you will have to look far for help!

EDIT: How could I forget, one place I did find a bunch of great information compiled about finding the history an older Morgan was in the most recent issue (August - Le Mans on the cover) of MOG Magazine. They have a spread on where to locate identifying numbers that can point you to the correct records at the factory archive. Also, I read that someone found MOG Magazine on the racks at Barns & Noble in Illinois so you may have luck at B&N.

Hi there,

Are there any local Morgan Clubs in Texas/California/US? I guess that there must be. The Australian one was very helpful in helping me find out more about my car. They often keep a register of cars.

Morgan themselves will be able to tell you about the build spec and the like (see there website, for a small fee!); assuming you don't have this already.

Also the Morgan Register (click here) may have something if a previous owner entered some data.

Happy hunting and enjoy the car!

R.

If your car was ever in the LA area, Dennis Glavis will probably know about it. He's the owner/proprietor of Morgan West - shoot him an email at dennis@morganwest.com.
I'd include any pertinent information about your car that may help him identify it. Good luck! Hope I can one day join the ranks of the American Morgan owners.
