Hello all
Got my doorchecks and stormcover from Librands today.
Intend to do the job with the doorchecks very soon.
Those of you who have those in your car.
Any tips will be highly appreciated.
Regards,
Ken in Sweden, with the thumb in the middle of the hand.

Not quite as easy as the principle suggests. First the original screws have to come out cleanly. Protect the front wing in case the door swings forwards. Try both checks on the first side because they will fit slightly different. One of mine stands a bit proud when the door is closed. The tension/stiffness is important and adjusted by the two vertical nuts&bolts. Not tight enough and it won't hold the door in position, and too tight and it will strain the fasteners. Trial & error will get you there!!

I think one of Frank's screws had been hammered in and had bent.

Hi,
I have fitted door checks to two Morgans in the past.
Just make sure when you drill the longer holes in the door you put tape on the drill bit so you don't come through door skin!
Also the chrome dome nuts do come loose so a little bit of Glue stuff to stop that.It is a little tight getting your hands in when fixing it to the car side.
Also keep the leather sraps in case you change your Morgan

Had mine fitted at RPM in Perth - reckon it was worthwhile getting the professionals on the job!

Hi Ken,Just fitted a pair of Librands door checks two days ago (together with a foot locker). On my 2009 mod, an easy job. Later versions are much easier, since you don’t have to struggle to fit new long bolts&nuts through the door post.
First I took off the leather strap. Take care, as Dave says, to protect the door/wing when opening the door. Then I used a 3mm drill to make the old holes in the door up to 30mm deep. The new door checks are marked with a tiny sticker (on the bracket to go on the door), so you can find the right one for the right side. Then dismantle the door check by taking off one of the vertical bolts (with the clear plastic tube around). Fit the bracket on the door, with the new and longer wood screws. Get the bracket aligned. Then fit the door check on the door post. Do not over tight the bolts here, since you need to do some minor adjustments later. Align the bracket on the post. Reassemble the door check by fitting the vertical bolt again. Carefully close the door and finish the work by adjusting the bracket on the door post and the tightness of the vertical bolts.
Follow the instructions given from Librands, and the suggestions given from DaveW and Brownbaker.
I took me some 20 minutes per door. On older Morgans, it takes more time to fit the door checks on the door post as you need to take off trimming etc.
This is for sure a “must have item”!

Good luck!

Torstein

Hello,

I fitted the Librands door checks to my 2009 4/4 Sport in 2010. It was the first "upgrade" job on the car I did. I found it easy enough and am very happy with the doors kept properly open since then.

As said before: make sure to protect the door/wing after removing the leather straps.
I refrained from drilling the existing holes. I found that with a few washers placed under the fittings I could reuse the original screws with no problem.

Also my Morgan has a left and right side not being identical to the millimeter. The most time I took during installation was to get both door checks aligned to the degree of perfectness my German genes needed to be satisfied ... grin2

Also with my checks the chrome dome nuts did come loose once or twice. I added washers here as well and since then: no problem.

My car a 97 didn't have threaded holes in the scuttle roll bar. It was fiddly fitting the nuts. Drilling the holes in the door was scary but I ensured only the right length of drill bit was exposed beyond the chuck.

Good luck

It is dead simple in reality if you ensure on the door drilling bit you dont SNAFU

Is there a left and a right hand thing? They are not marked.
Ken.
