I'm sure this must have been covered before.
Will the newer rear suspension set up with the hoop and telescopic shock absorbers fit a narrow track 4/4 from the 60's?. Looking at some photos of the newer cars with the wider track there didnt seem to be that much room hence the question.

Talk to Tim Ayres at New Elms. http://www.newelmsmorgan.com/

They now have Rutherford Engineering parts. They will know whether there is a kit available for the earlier cars.
Please post up any results, there's quite a few older cars here.

Good luck!

Had it done on my 1989 4/4, which I believe is identical to yours, using Rutherford parts. There are (or where 5 years ago) two option avaiable. One needed to make a slight cut in the woodwork, but nothing drastic. As Graham has said, give Tim Ayres a call.

My 89 plus four (39inch chassis width I think) has a factory hoop.

the hoop will fit, the chassis is the same, btr axle is wider so gives extra width

Unless your car is radically different from my 4/4 made in 1972, a Rutherford kit should fit fine. I have one and fitted it when the factory were still building lever shock absorber cars, ie pre-dates the current hoop etc.

Thanks for all the information. I am aware of the Rutherford kits and New Elms. I will give New Elms a call as suggested.

Spoke to Tim Ayres today and discussed rear suspension options. The Rutherford kit seems to be the most suitable, so will be ordering that once the next batch is ready. Helpful chap and he was born in the same town as me and one of his parents worked for Hawkers, as my Mother did - small World.

Much obliged Graham. I took some photo's of your Morgan as its very similar to mine in many ways i.e. nicely used - although I have just started stripping mine down for a re-build, hence the reason I was at Gaydon in the Defender.
