Re: Dave's Classic Morgan How To... - 29/10/10 02:33 PM

If all these Howtos would have appeared in the Miscellany our Club journal would have been of much more interest for us non-Brits for whom most of the time only the ads are useful(no offence intended, the editors do a fine job but they can only publish what they get). Are there reasons why DaveW wouldn't let them have it or why they wouldn't take it?

Apologies if my questions are too personal or politically incorrect.

Re: Dave's Classic Morgan How To... - 29/10/10 05:40 PM

Good question Frank.

If you look back to the early part of 2009, you'll find two articles in Miscellany about my early improvements, which were condensed by me into something more appropriate for the magazine.

The problem as I see it is that we DIYers are in a minority, and as has been jokingly mentioned in another thread, most Mog owners seem to prefer a nice lunch, unless they are racing nuts of course. Clearly there's a strong emphasis on competition in Miscellany, and there's nothing wrong with that, but much of the balance is taken up by travel articles.

My third submitted feature, which was about fitting the spoiler didn't make the magazine, and so since then I haven't submitted other technical articles. I do know that space in Miscellany is at a premium, and after my initial Concours Spot features, future submissions will be more restricted. I may try another technical feature sometime, but the 'how to' series here on TM don't translate into a magazine article without serious editing. There are too many photos and not enough narrative. The magazine needs the opposite balance.

So that's how I see it. I also know that few technical articles are submitted, due to the preponderance of 'lunchers'. Maybe my planned kingpin job will make a good magazine feature, but it will appear here first, almost in real time.

We are all ready for the book, and there should be plenty of takers.
Will you sign each copy to guarantee rarity?

Also, I think there is an opening for producing some of your fixes, e.g. the spare wheel retainers, courtesy of a fellow TM guru with a 3D printer.

Just a thought...

Re: Dave's Classic Morgan How To... - 11/07/17 02:58 PM

This batch of 'How To's is now re-booted.

Many thanks to Peter & Tim for facilitating a hosting site.

I'm sorry to all on TM that so many of my posts have been ransomed by Photobucket, but I'm far from being alone. Obviously a demand for c.£300 per annum is simply not viable, and will cost Photobucket significant losses in both subscribers and potential revenue.

Had they offered a realistic annual subscription, then I and thousands of other users would have taken that on, providing there had been a concession applied for historic images.

Over time I will work through my posts and re install the images. I have almost all of them in alternative storage, so they are safe. Obviously over eight years of posting can't be put right overnight, but if there are any images you really need to see, then send me a PM, with specific information so that I can dig out the image. A right click of the default photobucket display will bring up a list of options. The bottom one, inspect, will open up a window. Highlighted within it will be the image reference "IMG nnnn.JPG", which is my unique image number. thumbs

I have now completed reposting all the photographs which were ransomed by Photobucket. Fortunately almost all the images were stored elsewhere, and only a tiny number were 'lost'.

So to find the images you need to scroll to the end of the post in each case.

On the TM image site I now have 1667 images in 92 albums!!!! blush

It's taken a bit of work work but once I got into a rhythm it was reasonably easy.

Thank you so much. A most valuable contribution.

Thanks OZ. Little did I realise in January 2009 where it would all lead.
That's what happens when you don't have a masterplan. grin2

Dave,

Even when logged on most of the list of links to your pages that I kept still post with corrupted photos when opened?

What am I not doing to see the new pics?

Re: Dave's Classic Morgan How To... - 20/12/17 02:01 PM

Have you scrolled down to the last page Frank?

I can't replace the existing images, because the links are not editable, so I've had to repost the stories at the end of each post.

Re: Dave's Classic Morgan How To... - 21/12/17 10:40 AM

Excellent Dave. Found them thank you.

It is a b of a job as I have had to replace all of the photos on the Register website as well.

Fortunately where I could not remember the pic I found a way of re opening the links to PhotoBucket on each one and either re saving the photo or reminded of where I had save it was able to replace it.

I realise that TM would not let you do that.

Any news on the book's progress?

Re: Dave's Classic Morgan How To... - 21/12/17 11:07 AM

Frank. If you right click on the photobucket kitten and click properties it shows the image name. From this I write a list from which I reload the images into the TM image site.
I then copy my posts and paste at the end and reload the images into the gaps.

All quiet on the book front. I'm expecting the first copy soon after Christmas.
