New Morgan 4/4... - 05/05/19 03:55 AM

Simple question!

I have heard various answers to this question...

Can you still order a new 4/4 for the UK market?

Cheers!

Looking at Morgan’s website you can order the 110 years version.
So it looks like yes .
But someone with more information will answer.

Why not phone MMC sales on Monday?
At present I'm fairly certain the answer is No. However there are still some new ones available at a few dealers and I think there are 2 or 3 at the factory.

Oakmere had a couple of new ones a couple of weeks ago, including a very nice willow green with mulberry hide...willow green wires....looked fantastic!

Phoning this Monday will not elicit a response -- try Tuesday.

Re: New Morgan 4/4... - 05/05/19 09:47 AM

What a pity they stopped the 4/4 production! The 4/4's "narrow body" proportions are better than the "wide body" one's & it was an excellent and +/- affordable entry-level car...

Still available to RoW markets Giles.

Re: New Morgan 4/4... - 05/05/19 11:49 AM

So, reading between the many lines, it seems that you cannot now order a new 4/4 in the UK! It is confusing eh!!

Indeed, those 4/4 for sale at Oakmere and London Morgan tend to support that with their narratives... such a shame really!

I do find it curious that the 4/4 is described by many as 'the ENTRY LEVEL MORGAN'! To me, it's actually the purest DNA of the brand, probably the most 'honest' to the original 4/4. I would prefer to see it described as the 'discerning choice' of Morgan... ! :>) Not to mention all the great plus points the 4/4 has... the lightest, smallest narrow body, great 'revvy' engine that is easily modified, traditionally made... and now also cannot be ordered!

Anyway! I am really looking forward to taking delivery of mine in 2 weeks. :>)

"Entry Level" is a poor description IMHO.
But then, I'm biased! smile

Graham, don’t forget a certain (past) TMer once described the 4/4 as the
“poverty model”

swear

Also I’ve just had a look at Oakmere’s website and they appear to have 3 x 2018 4/4s in stock, all listed with 0 miles.

Re: New Morgan 4/4... - 05/05/19 12:44 PM

Well indeed!!!

...I have 'traded UP' from my 2018 Plus 4 to a 2016 4/4!!! love

Some measure the quality of a car by the price they paid, which I find somewhat strange. The 4/4 being the original 4 wheel True Morgan as most people know as a Morgan, the the +4 , Roadster and + 8 eight are mere derivatives of the original .

That is indeed a very nice car in the colour combination like the Caterham you can see next to her in some of the pics. Already sold.

An even worse description Simon!

I thought the "poverty model" referred to the ones without the proper number of holes in the bonnet!!!
(Of which I owned one and it was a brilliant car)

The registration certificate of my Roadster, lists it as a 4/4 3000.
So, indeed a 4/4 derivative...

That's interesting. Which ones? Not the EU, I think, because the Sigma engine, excellent though it is, does not meet the latest emissions regulations. Isn't that correct?

Re: New Morgan 4/4... - 06/05/19 07:31 AM

I love my (2017) 4/4... in 12/2018 I was thinking about an „Upgrade“ to a Plus 4.
Now I am very happy that I haven‘t the money at this time...

Re: New Morgan 4/4... - 06/05/19 08:56 AM

I'm late to the party on this one - sorry.... but is the 4/4 no longer being produced? The model line starts at the Plus 4?

Re: New Morgan 4/4... - 06/05/19 09:52 AM

From what's been said on here I think they are available for the rest of the world other than the EU which includes us at the moment. The reason being that the Sigma does not meet the present emissions standards.

They are hoping for a solution within the year I read somewhere for the EU and home market..

More than happy to be corrected it's just what I have gleaned from here.

Re: New Morgan 4/4... - 06/05/19 10:34 AM

If the Sigma engine no longer meets the latest emissions regulations, how come it’s still available in the Caterham ?
Posted By: +8Rich

Re: New Morgan 4/4... - 06/05/19 10:37 AM

A good question for Caterham to answer for you.

I know Caterham have many different states of tune so it could be that some have passed the current regulations ?

"Due to new emissions regulations in Europe, the iconic Morgan 4/4 was discontinued in August 2018. A limited number of engines remain for other markets, but now there are only four engines left and production will cease in July 2019.
This is now your last chance to purchase a Morgan 4/4 in its classic naturally aspirated 4- cylinder configuration.
Please contact us urgently, should you wish to place an order."

So the next version will then be a 3-cylinder turbo?

Morgan 4/4 with a 3 cylinder engine ? doesn’t the 4/4 indicate 4 wheels and 4 cylinders drive

Yes we could end up with a 4/3 yet grin2

Well we have the Plus 6 already so they are happy to break the moulds every now and again.

Re: New Morgan 4/4... - 06/05/19 04:35 PM

It could well be called “Four Four” instead of 4/4. Would tie in with Plus Six.

Smart Car or Mercedes have or had a car called a ForFour which I always thought was in breach of registered car names as it applies phonetically but I suppose MMC didn’t bother to challenge

Re: New Morgan 4/4... - 06/05/19 05:47 PM

3-cylinder turbo from BMW, don't think that's bad at all. My wife has very recently bought a new Mini Cooper with this 136 BHP engine and I love it. And like BMW, the number already says nothing about the engine....!

Re: New Morgan 4/4... - 06/05/19 05:57 PM

That could be very good if they decide to move away from Ford.

The 4/4 Sigma is only available in Australia and Japan I believe due to emission regulations.
