Pick a sunny day - we could fill the car park! grin2

First class museum. You can make a weekend of it if coming far as the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm museum at RNAS Yeovilton is about 5 miles further along the A303. At the turning for the FAA museum stop off at the bistro, best coffee and petty good food. And the Bakery just back from the junction has the best bread and sticky things this side of Nagasaki! Look out for the 2 loafs on the table! I was based at Yeovilton in my last year in the RN, so have inside knowledge!!

Re: A Celebration of Morgan at Haynes - 20/09/19 10:54 PM

Good suggestion Dave, if there is an appetite for the Haynes visit or a stopover and Yeovilton visit the following day I will make some enquiries.

Graham, maybe we could fill their car park.

Re: A Celebration of Morgan at Haynes - 21/09/19 06:04 PM

Thank you for your responses gentlemen are we all overnighting and doing Yeovilton the next day or are some of you just coming to Haynes ?
Is a weekend best or maybe avoided, any thoughts welcomed ?
Yeovilton is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays in the period we will be visiting just to bear in mind.

Re: A Celebration of Morgan at Haynes - 21/09/19 07:42 PM

Mid week likely to be quieter? Unless there's a school trip visiting!
Overnight works for me. Happy enough with a Premier Inn or equivalent (or a good pub B&B smile ). Chance for a couple of ales and a good evening chat?
Posted By: DavidR

Re: A Celebration of Morgan at Haynes - 21/09/19 08:41 PM

Would also prefer mid week, but happy to go with the flow. Overnight also OK.

Just seen this as I am away driving Route 1 on the West Coast between LA and San Francisco - tremendous views over the Pacific. I could be up for getting the Aeromax out for Haynes but not sure about overnighting depends on dates. Like to be kept abreast of plan a sit develops.

Re: A Celebration of Morgan at Haynes - 22/09/19 12:42 PM

Thanks for your help on day of the visit and confirmation of overnight stay Graham and David, with you on the accommodation side and of course a pint of ale and good catch up on the Wednesday evening, how does Wednesday the 13th suit for Haynes and the overnight with Yeovilton on Thursday the 14th. If that seems good for the majority I'll start a list and look for some suitable hostelry once we have an idea of numbers, have put you both down already. I just picked a date so if it suits to change it we can, I thought it best to avoid December due to weather and it's generally a busy time.

All welcome just add your name to the list if you fancy the visit to either or both venues just a tag to indicate would be helpful in sorting accomodation

Rich,
I would like to join you work permitting. You will appreciate it is a bit of a slog from Felxistowe (220 miles , 4hrs via M25 & M3) so I will probably stay over the Tues & Wed.

LogMog is working with Haynes to organise this event. I'm part of the team.
We have had an offer from Henry Williams to loan his racing Morgan for the event.

I'll keep everyone in the loop.

Dates good for me Richard.
Haven't got November schedule from MMC yet, so will advise "boss" I'm not available on those two days smile

(Have emailed friends in Street to see if they can advise on pub B&B...)

That's good Graham, as I am going in cold on the pub B&B side that could be very helpful thanks.

Couple of Premier Inns in/near Yeovil that could be a fall back Richard. Price a little over the £50 mark for the Wednesday at present.
No response from contact as yet...

Richard those dates are good for me but as I live close by, I won't need the overnight accommodation.

Re: A Celebration of Morgan at Haynes - 23/09/19 05:42 PM

UPDATE:

the LogMog team met with the Haynes Curator today. Great Progress.

A plan is coming together, we plan 12 cars, 3 from the Haynes collection and 9 from MSCC Members or their friends.
The theme is shaping up, it will focus on the people as much, if not more than, the cars.
The event opens on 11 November and runs through to the 10th Jan, so 9 weekends: we plan to have LogMog members and other Morgan addicts acting as Haynes Volunteers on the weekends, and also organise some events within events. Ideas would be welcome, but a TM Drive in would be great! We are going to see if we can arrange a special concessionary rate for Morgan owners arriving in a Morgan!
The Christmas/New Year period is always busy, especially the school holidays.

This will be a super event!

I think the PI out by the airfield does Richard.

However, I found this one:
https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel...-West_Camel_Yeovil_Somerset_England.html
Don't know how many rooms available, but for night of Nov 13th is £55 B&B.
Roughly half way between the RNAS Museum and Haynes.

My pal suggested AirBnB in Castle Cary - some good pubs/food apparently but we'd be scattered around the village and surrounding area, so not really suitable.

Another pub, which is really good and Morgan friendly is The Mitre at Sandford Orcas,Dorset
They have recently added a Shephard's Hut to their accommodation.
About 6 miles from Haynes, in a nice quite village with interesting Manor House.

I'll do that Monday Graham, good advice I've been suffering with the man flu so not as quick off the mark as I would like.

The Walnut Tree has room for the 5 of us on the 13th and I have booked my room this morning £55, they also have room on the 12th for Graham and John.
I have booked a table in the dining room for the 13th at 1930 for the 5 of us, Real Ale will be available and we are all on the ground floor smile.

If you boys would like to call Syreeta or Izzy to book they will be expecting your call smile on 01935 851292. I think that is safer than online as the email I sent took a while to get replied to..

Looking forward to meeting up, about 1100 at Haynes suit everybody for a start point ?

This is the Real Ale supplier Cheddar Ales although I don't know which one or choice they have on tap, I hope you enjoy it cheers
I did enquire of the lady of the house whether they served Real Ale as it's almost a prerequisite for us, not that I said that to her but she did mention that we are all on the ground floor shortly after my question grin2.
She also mentioned that the chef has a good reputation for his Full English breakfasts so it sounds promising and the evening menu looks very good.

It will be a separate hall, reached from the Red Hall.
Inside will be 12 to 14 Morgans, the exact number is not yet fixed.
At the moment this is the list...

[Linked Image]

For each car there will be a background story about the car and its owners, why they drive a Morgan, what they do with the Morgan.
There will be a display by MSCC, Williams Morgan and possibly the Factory.
The organisers are also trying to engage with the producers of the TV program on C4.
Some other stuff as well!

There will be MSCC members acting as volunteer guides on certain days.

I think it will be rather special.

For a great country pub/hotel on the way home there's the White Lion High St, Bourton, Gillingham SP8 5AT - try the steak and pygmy pie

More good news, Roady will be joining us for the Haynes visit and maybe bringing his good lady.

Good news and update, Mark H and Neil will be joining us at Haynes all being well.

We are booked in for a "Behind the Scenes" visit at 1300 on the 13th, thanks Graham for letting us know these were available.

Looking forward to meeting up, about 1100 at Haynes for a start point bearing in mind some of you are travelling quite a distance.

Re: A Celebration of Morgan at Haynes - 02/11/19 12:45 PM

My attendance is unlikley: I'm away on business in Paris on 12th returning on the 13th.
SWANMOG are going on 24th, so I'll join that group.

Re: A Celebration of Morgan at Haynes - 03/11/19 11:00 AM

I just got this from Swanmog. It might of interest for those of you who can't join the TM event.

"The Celebration of Morgan event at the Haynes International Motor Museum takes place from 11 November 2019 to 10 January 2020. MSCC members can gain entry to the museum at the Group Rate, just remember to take your MSCC membership card with you.

The museum has their own Plus 8 and 3 wheeler, in addition MSCC members have loaned their Morgans to the museum for the period of the exhibition. You may recognise Ann and Brian Millers 4 seater. I discussed the event with the Curator last week and he emphasised that he wanted to capture and present as much about the owners, and their association with their Morgan, in addition to the information about the car. Much of the liaison between the museum and MSCC members has been carried out via Logmog, the local Centre.

Although the event is on for two months and we can visit anytime, Brian Dunton (Logmog) has agreed that they will target Sunday 24th November to get as many MSCC members (and their cars weather permitting) to the museum. Parking will be reserved for Morgans. If you plan to go on the 24th please let Brian Dunton know by email at logmog.sec@morgansportscarclub.com so that adequate parking can be reserved, and guided tours can be arranged

The collection of vehicles at the museum is varied and in addition to some exotic models, and some American excess, there are the common models that the 'man in the street' would have been driving. There is a restaurant at the museum and prices are very reasonable.

If there is a call for it, we may organise a Swanmog visit for those who don't go on the 24th, we can discuss this at the Green Shed social

Re: A Celebration of Morgan at Haynes - 08/11/19 07:43 PM

I haven’t been to Haynes yet. It is on my bucket list though.
Next week is a bit unknown for me so far but, if circumstances change ( they might) then I would like to join the group as a “last minute addition” if possible.
I need to check on which days I will be unable to join first, but still a variable. Wedsnesday appears to be the difficult day so far.

Re: A Celebration of Morgan at Haynes - 12/11/19 04:28 PM

I'm in the MINI anyway Richard. Needed a boat to get up my driveway late morning!
Unfortunately John's Roadster appears to have suffered a problem with the immobiliser on the way, so he unlikely to join me here at the Walnut Tree tonight.
Hopefully he will reach us tomorrow...

Re: A Celebration of Morgan at Haynes - 12/11/19 05:47 PM

Yes this damn rain is relentless, it's nothing like the chaos they have had up North but certainly flooded roads where we have never seen them before around here.
Really sorry to hear about John's problem I hope he has some luck getting it going again and makes it tomorrow. I'll pm him.

Well Graham I am home by recovery truck. The spare keys also don't work. I suspect the PCB or the immobiliser. Krazy Horse will get rich .
Will aim to leave early in the tin top. See you Wed .

Re: A Celebration of Morgan at Haynes - 13/11/19 08:03 PM

Yes it was a great day with a great bunch of people, I'm so pleased I came.

It's a shame I missed the workshop tour but I thought it best to drive home before the M25 turned into a car park.
It was a nice steady drive and it stayed dry as an added bonus cheers

Thanks to all for making it such a friendly and fun day clap

Re: A Celebration of Morgan at Haynes - 15/11/19 07:04 AM

Glad to hear that the visit to the Fleet Air Arm Museum went well. Thank you again Richard for organising the visit to Haynes, the look behind the scenes at lunchtime being the highlight. Also a very enjoyable evening at The Walnut Tree. Somewhat DAMP trip back to Malvern, but the Max does at least appear to be almost completely watertight! Hope you all have an enjoyable festive season. Regards Malcolm
