How many Aeros have been made?

How many Aeros have been made? - 07/07/19 12:20 PM

Hi Folks

Sorry if this has been dealt with before but I'm intrigued to know how many were made in each series.

Contributions gratefully received and thanks in advance.

R,
there is an aero register somewhere on this site, it was originally set up by GAJET
It is somewhat incomplete as MMCs build records were, 20 years ago, a bit hit and miss.
Sadly, the website where it was hosted was closed down last year as it wasn't GDPR Compliant.
I can't remember the total production of the Aero chassis cars, but now that they are consigned to history it would be interesting to know the total, over 20 years.
My guess is about 2000 - 2500. Try a PM to GAJET.

I had a hunt through some previous threads as I do remember seeing this discussed before.

That's why you get such good residuals...……….only 98 New PLus 8's at Jan 2013...……...maybe only 200 now?

I think if you include the Plus 8's on the Aero chassis, then you might get to 1,500-1,600 total. If just Aero, 1,2,3,4,5,GT, GTN, Aero Coupe, Aero Supersport and Aeromax then 1,200 is more likely.

That seems the likely ballpark -there's 1000 or so on that image in Alistair's post: there were only another 15 or so Coupe's produced.
IIRC by the end of Coupe production Morgan had bought/commissioned another 200-250 V8s.
We know there's 50 run out Plus8, and 8 Aero GT - and 130 or so Aero S5
There's a fair bit of rumour, guesswork and memory in this, but 1200-1300 seems the right sort of range.

editing myself :-)

& I've no idea how many Aero chassied Plus 8s might have been built between 2013 & 2017... so adding those onto my guess of 1200-1300, and Shooter's 1500-1600 could well be the mark, if they continued to made at around 2 per week over that period, which is entirely possible. And that last 200-250 engines were used on S5s, GTs, +8 50th and a sprinkling of +8s in 2016/7/8.

Interesting to see the start of production date. Mine was registered mid June 2001 so I assume start of production was May time

All record keeping for these numbers includes a small degree of "what was it again" at the factory I suspect. The Aero has never been a high volume model even to the same degree as the M3W or any of the Trads. It is a niche of a niche (that gets under your skin in most cases) that finds the right owner.

“Niche of a Niche”. Nice. 😁😁

Well, according to the feature on the Plus 8 in the latest Motor Punk Magazine, a total of just 300 Plus 8s were built between 2012 and 2018.
Given a substantial number were exports how many does that leave in the UK? Possibly 100?
Whatever way one looks at the numbers a Plus 8 on an Aero chassis is rather special.
I'm keeping mine.

In fact....almost as rare as the narrow bodied Plus 4 ! innocent

In fact Williams claimed there was only one, as I recall......

I was told when going round the factory a few weeks ago the same figures including the last 50 as well , and that makes them like hen's teeth ! Haven't test driven the plus 6 yet as I have been told they need a sports exhaust as well as being 2 cylinders short ! grin2

Re: How many Aeros have been made? - 09/09/19 02:55 PM

They are special, made at an average of 42 per year, less than one a week, for 7 years.
Beginning to think I'm a custodian, not an owner.
Tarka was build in 2013, registered in 2014 and had covered 40,560miles as of today.

Re: How many Aeros have been made? - 10/09/19 07:37 AM

It has always felt like the Aero was a very very small volume. Even when compared to the number of Trads sold hardly being high volume.

The Coupe is 2013 made, registered in 14 and now has ~33,000 so I am guessing we are using them quite well to ensure people don't forget they exist, its all part of a public service.
Given the way gongs were handed out last night perhaps we should be looking to receive a shiny medal in the post from HM in the near future? (whoops wrong thread)

Re: How many Aeros have been made? - 11/09/19 01:20 AM

I believe 92 Aero plus 8’s we’re made in RHD. Not sure if that includes the final 50 or not.
Considering the Aero has taken about 2 million in development over the years it was probably a loss leader (?). I love mine....

If you want to do some digging then the dvla offer statistics https://www.gov.uk/government/statistical-data-sets/all-vehicles-veh01#registered-for-the-first-time as do https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/morgan_aero_8

The DVLA numbers show as being registered in UK and on the road so excludes sorn.

Not sure even DVLA can be relied on for accuracy. Don't forget a lot of certificates of conformity from Morgan are inaccurate! Often seen Aero CoC's showing the car to be a 4/4 etc

Re: How many Aeros have been made? - 16/09/19 11:26 AM

My CoC for the 2013 Coupe Auto shows it as an Aero Supersports.

Re: How many Aeros have been made? - 16/09/19 12:55 PM

My CoC for the Plus 8 also describes it as an Aero Supersports.

The V5 is even more confused.../...confusing!

Make: Morgan
Type: Aero 8
Varient: A12
Version: A18
Model: Aero Suoersports Auto
Body: Convertible

No mention of Plus 8 anywhere!

Re: How many Aeros have been made? - 17/09/19 09:30 AM

Mine shows as Aero Superports - and is isn't SORN, so not on those numbers..

Re: How many Aeros have been made? - 17/09/19 05:09 PM

The CoC is irrelevant - what does your V5 show because thats what the DVLA data will be about. Yu need to bear in mind that they arent Aero enthusiasts so they couldnt care about the niceties of description

Re: How many Aeros have been made? - 17/09/19 08:57 PM

A lot of early Roadsters are shown as 4/4 on the V5.

The V5 of my 3 wheeler says make, MORGAN, model NOT KNOWN !

A friend of mine provided me with this table.
Source should be ACEA (European Automobile Manufacturers Association) and it includes the entire world without middle east.
Obviously it reports only data that were communicated. You can easily spot inconsistencies (e.g. coupe in CH with 245kW), unfortunately

Being one of the first factory cars it was probably registered before the DVLA's database had the requisite entrys.
