WANTED: pre-Centenary (so 2008-ish) bonnet badge

WANTED: pre-Centenary (so 2008-ish) bonnet badge - 04/08/22 06:22 PM

All the other logos on my 2009 Roadster (Centenary dash badge, hood cover, sidescreen bag, spare wheel cover, horn push) feature the "old style droopy" wings, so I reckon the bonnet badge with the current upswept wings is a later "upgrade". I don't want an Indian-made ripoff, and the usual suppliers don't seem to have one. (Like on this blue car, and mine for comparison in case of doubt; please PM me if you can help):

Take it off Peter before you commit. On my Plus 4 the badge has indented the paint, so I couldn't fit the older badge.

You should still be able to get the older badge from MMC or the dealers, but expect to pay around £65.

Apologies if this transgresses Forum rules, but that's good advice thanks which others may want to note. Under very bright light I can just make-out burnishing marks in the paint on the cowl around the badge, so I reckon it may have been off already. I've tried the dealers (UK and abroad), but not yet MMC, so I'll check that.

Mine was a new-old-stock item sourced from one of the ex-dealers lost in the recent "cull" (they only had one left, unfortunately). Believe it was designated for the rear panel of an Aero S1. Trad cowl badges are no use, as they're all designated "4/4, +4 or +8". Took a bit of cautious modifying to fit the curve of the Roadster cowl - but it's a much better quality item than the current/recent offering IMHO, and I'm well pleased with the result (see my profile pic).

Worth trying a well-known auction site for genuine ex-dealer new/old stock? You never know!

It’s a shame the changed it n the first place. I think the old one looks a lot better.

The Roadster cowl badge from that era doesn't say Roadster, for obvious reasons.

The other thing is that the one I bought for my 2012 Plus 4 came flat, so needed bending to fit the cowl. There's a "How To" on TM.

I wish I could have transferred it to my 2016, but the paint is too badly indented without serious work.

Here's the logo as featured in the early Roadster brochure

Getting there: the "new" badge came off easily, leaving only the lightest of witness marks which Meguiar's removed. I made a paper mock-up and am happy that this is the way to go. Just need to find one now !

I sold the one I had a couple of years ago, and it went to the USA.

You are probably correct. My paper mock-up cost zero, and for the time being I've reinstalled the "new wings" on my newly polished cowl. Used a thin gasket to prevent any marking in the meantime while I save for the M.R. one......

The repros on e-bay are obvious and you won't get much for £18.........

Perhaps you need to commission one via Image or Bonesie ? if the fleabay quality is lacking.

MMC don't tolerate infringements of their brand logos if they get wind of it. Personal use is tolerated but selling on isn't.

MSCC can't use the current wings logo for example.

It would have to be a "gift" then, we had the same nonsense with my old company The Decca Navigator Company that had a rather tasteful one but there was a work around..

Have you tried MMC - they used to have old stock in the visitor centre shop.

Failing that, BHM have one each of the 4/4 and +8 cowl badges. You could grind off the numbers, and paint.

Thanks, I'm still on the hunt (and I have had a helpful response from MMC).
Re Melvyn, I'm kind hoping there's a decimal place wrong in this listing https://mogparts.net/product/cowl-badge-2008-on, otherwise watch out for a flood of current badges hitting the market from wise owners.
