That was my understanding Ian. Clearly the pressure side of gerotor oil pump can only slow the head of oil from tank creeping back into sump over time. Not an issue if your M3W is used fairly regularly though.

iso over the winter, mine sat. drained at least 2 quarts out the bottom. well, I say 2 quarts, I only had a one quart pan....

Mine drains quite a bit if sitting very long and as long as it is not on the floor then it is in the engine and I let it idle to pump it back into the tank before I drive it.


The light at the end of the tunnel is actually a train. 2019 M3W

what I found was I was getting a lot of start up smoke and also having to add oil. I wonder if for a long sit (e.g. winter) of maybe just draining the oil completely and then adding it back before start up. Much easier to drain the tank, than getting to the sump plug
