Description
This badge has just sold on e-bay.

The Morgan 4/4 Club was the forerunner of the MSCC.

The full history is on the Club website here: http://www.mscc.uk.com/history.html
and is well worth reading.

It all started with a short paragraph on page 598 of 'The Autocar' on the 18th May 1951..............

The introduction of the Plus Four was greeted by the club committee with great heart searching as to whether such ‘revolutionary beasts’ should be allowed in the club. After much discussion and rude remarks about tractors they were taken into the fold.
At the end of 1969 a referendum was held with the following results:
“Do members wish for the club to change its name?”

“If the Club's name is changed which of the indicated names would the members prefer?”

Morgan Sports Car Club 136 votes
At the AGM in June 1970 and with effect from the 1st of January 1971 the club became “The Morgan Sports Car Club”...... Then the debate began over changing the badge.

I still have an early 'Marples Beasley' badge for sale which is in the 'For Sale and Wanted' section of the Furum under Morgan Badge Collection. My details are on there if anyone is interested. Condition is immaculate.

£220 + P&P

Ben - You'll get more coverage on e-bay. The price they go for is too expensive, except for very serious collectors.

Another one went for £68.66 on e-bay tonight.
I was almost tempted, but didn't bid in the end.
It was genuine, but don't know which version.

As far as I am aware there is three versions of this badge, apart from the Indian repro. The first was a plain badge with no makers name. The second issue was stamped 'Gladman and Norman' with a number on the back and the third was stamped 'Marpes and Beasley' , hope this helps!

Taffmog,

I think that you might have them the wrong way around (See post #4) Not sure about the completely umarked version though.
Having spoken to other collectors, 'Marples and Beasley' definately preceeds 'Gladman and Norman'

Regards

Ben
