Unfortunately I can make no comment regarding Latin, but the oft repeated spelling of peddle when the noun is pedal (e.g. brake pedal - and I mean brake pedal, not break pedal, unless of course it is a pedal that has been broken...).

Graham, in this instance "Personally" emphasises rather than duplicates the "I" so there is no tautology.

I can well understand your irritation when "peddle" is used instead of "pedal". My own bête noire is when "loosing" is used instead of "losing".
