I have a Garmin satnav and a month ago I downloaded software onto my laptop. It allows preplanning of routes with options to locate waypoints such as restaurants, places of interest, etc. and upload the plan to the satnav.
I have just started playing with it so can’t comment on it yet. I will be testing it out on some local drives to see how it works. I’ll compare it to regular routes I already use as a learning exercise.
In the past I have also used Google maps to plan routes. The measuring tool helps get distances and street view enabled getting visuals at strategic points such as junctions.
