So what are the views out there? Having done most of my Scottish (your) journey without one - Mine was busted. I found that using the maps was Good - When it had worked it kept directing me away from the roads & places I wanted to go to. I have a new one now (Pressy) and it is handy to have?

I have a Tom Tom in the Morgan sucker fitting onto dash behind the steering wheel. It is OK but can sometimes send you on a "scenic tour" and should be taken with a pinch of salt - if you think you know better - you probably do!

The absolute best thing about a Sat Nav is that it's always available as a kind of 'get out of jail free' card when on vacational peregrinations. Leave the thing switched off and simply drive where the roads, the scenery and the the weather takes your fancy. When you've had enough sightseeing, are hopelessly lost and want to get to your hotel, just switch it on and follow it home.

I used a Tom Tom in a rented car during the centenary. It was generally good, directing us to go Left or Right, and even handled the occasional exit on the round about quite well. There was just once that we felt let down, when we found ourselves on a lovely lane with slowly narrowing hedge rows. A bit further on, a sign read 'public footpath . . .'
All I use in the US are the Magellan's and the one in built into the tin top (sourced from Pioneer, I believe.)
They are the greatest thing for a Morgan though. Drive where ever you want with only spontaneity to guide you. Then, let it find your way home. Only wish I could hear it better with the top down. Would love an audio out jack, but haven't found one yet.
Cheers, Mark

I have a standalone older Garmin but have used both a fair bit in hire cars. To me it's personal preference as there's not a lot to choose between them really.
Only tip would be is to get one that allows you free map updates.

Tom Tom and Tyre Software for true route planning (you guide the SatNav!) the perfect combination.... I would love to think that we could share the routes we all enjoy so much and Tyre allows you to save itineraries and send them to friends. (Does Garmin as well) No connection but just happy user of the Tyre Software (and TomTom)

A shame that Tyre software won't run on a Mac (unless it's been updated now) I have used it and like it for planning routes.

I run Windows 7 as a VM on my Mac using Parallels, Tyre runs quite happily in that. Bit of an expensive solution if you have no other reason to run Windows on your Mac, but it's great for integrating Win only apps into your Mac.
