I bought a nice "Birthday" tax disc for December 1966 from a guy on e bay. You get a fully printed disc and two spare blanks.
So you can wear the very first tax disc your car ever had ( if you don't have it) for £8(one) to £11 (three)

I'm nothing to do with the seller but have had his "retro" discs on my last two cars

See his website.
A very nice guy he sends them on approval first and you can pay via paypal after recipt

As my Car is still wearing her first disc I will save it for posterity. It will be interesting to see how much money DVLA will save with this measure. My view is it will cost far more to chase up the tax dodgers once the disc is gone, it's OK to say that they will be checked electronically but by who ? The current DVLA database is 3 months out of date. Trust me the police are not going to be driving around checking every vehicle on an out of date database or an up to date one either.

The Police haven't checked tax discs for years, it's not there remit its a DVLA job.
Cle2/6 forms were withdrawn in the 1990's
It will be an electronic check and auto fine as of October. Same as Road Fund licence is now.

My last "fraudulent" tax disc was in the 1980's ( I did the nicking ! lol )

We still get loads going through ANPR showing "no tax SORN" so whatever system they are using it ain't working. Time will tell.

If the only way to check if a car has been taxed, is insured and has an MOT is ANPR just where are the readers?

Very occasionally we see a camera van on the A36 betwen Salisbury and Southampton. I know Wiltshire Police traffic cars all have the ability to read and check, but again there are only a handfull to cover the county and to be honest they have more important priorities.

But if no one was looking at tax discs anyway I uppose nothing really changes!
