Anybody visiting near Plymouth in a mog I would recommend
1. A379 coast road Kingsbridge to Dartmouth both directions are magical
2. Across Dartmoor Yelverton - Princetown- Two Bridges - Dartsmeet -Haytor- b
Bovey Tracey - Mortenhampstead - Princetown - Tavistock

Yours in your locality

Rutland we are spoilt for choice, but two great circular routes are:

Oundle-peterborough-B660 to Kimbolton, B645 to Raunds then Old road to Islip/thrapston and back to Oundle

Oundle-corby-Uppingham-Oakham-stamford-Barnack-peterborough-Wansford-elton-oundle

or a longer one.
Oundle-corby-uppingham-Market harborough B664-Melton mowbrey B6047-saxby B676 but right to Wymondham-Foss lane-Market overton-cottesmore-barnsdale lodge-stamford-barnack-peterborough-wonsford-elton-oundle

All have good pubs on route and all are criss crossed with other good roads. If anyone is ever over here shout as i do love a road trip.

Both feature the same road, A272....

1. A272 all the way from Billingshurst through Petworth, Midhurst, Petersfield to Winchester, on an early sunny Sunday morning it's bliss all the way and such scenery.
2. A272 part of the way as far as Petworth, then A285 south towards Chichester, past the Goodwood circuit, A27 towards Arundel, A280 'Long furlong'(the most beautiful bit of road in Sussex)skirting the south downs, short spell on A24 north then back to the south downs on A283 and then B2135 towards Horsham, just fab. Only made better with a bacon buttie stop at Arundel.

A272, absolutey, but don't forget the B3049 from Winchester to Stockbridge. This was originally the A272 before it was down graded and has the A272's "character"

The following is a brilliant rarly Sunday morning blast: take the A30 from Salisbury to Shaftesbury then the B3081, Shaftesbury to Ringwood, including the murderous "ZigZag" Hill which makes any competition hill climb look tame.
Then A31 and A36 to Dorchester, not very interesting and then the A37 to Yeovil, A30 to Sherbourne then the A352 back to Dorchester. Two amazing bits or road. From Dorchester back to Blandford and Salisbury. 171 Miles but all of it well worth the fuel!

A hard one I live roughly the same distance from the Yorksire dales as I do from Northumberland and the Scottish borders . Then to top that the lake district is about the same distance . So spoilt for choice but if I had to pick Northumberland its wild rugged quiet roads and you can see for miles with FEW CARS a nice pub for a 1/2 and you can have coast or country next to each other with all that history and a castle dotted all over . God stopped after he made it, we had a picnic in a farmers field last year near Norham castle watching the birds follow the tractor so romantic and quiet and it was all ours.

Not near my home, but played on these roads in the Max last weekend as I was on a 4 day MTB ride at Kirroughtree - Mabie and AE Forests, I took some time out to try the roads A75 and A712 around Loch Trool and Loch Dee with some great scenery to boot.

1) From my home on the lower north shore, south over the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Eastern Distributor then Southern Cross Drive on the General Holmes Drive to Dolls Point to "Kiss the Barista" (Café on Botany Bay) for breakfast - an early morning weekend run only otherwise the traffic is hell.

2) Leave home and head north to Bobbin Head in the National Park for coffee on the marina or the Bobbin Inn Café then take the winding road up the old Pacific Highway to Cowan for lunch at "Pie in the Sky then "white knuckle" down the freeway home.
drive woohoo

didn't think you were allowed to go above 10 mph in a carpark so how does it count as a drive innocent
