I don't know if you saw this Kin, Honda have revamped their Insight making it a five-seater and it is now more clearly targeted at the Toyota Pius. grin2

HAng on a minute.....

That car has been doing the rounds for ages (since well before TVR went pop), except this year it's got a diesel engine onboard.

Fine it will do '70mpg' (so will a smart honest!). But who cares? You don't buy a car like that to have the sound of a diesel truck come out of it just to save 30mpg...

If you really want to go that way then the tesla / lightning are far more 'environMental' options..

Sad, but seems that the company couldn't flog the car with a charaterful petrol V8 for the last 3-4 years, so it's a last ditch attempt to re-engineer to make some cash back on the project which like most new british super sports cars has gone on way too long, eaten too much cash and delivered no sales....

Hmmmm

Heres the email I've received from Trident...

It's been a long year and many improvements have been made to the Iceni, most of
which one cannot see, however we have been very busy perfecting the fit and finish of
the car, preparing it for production and we are getting ever closer to the final
specification. Once achieved, we will produce the demonstrator Iceni. This will mean I
can finally get to all the UK-based potential customers who wish to test-drive the Iceni
and proceed with taking orders.
Whilst working on the Iceni, we have also been busy preparing the race car. This will be
entered into both the Britcar series and British GT Championship – taking on the
Ferraris, Moslers, Lamborghinis, Aston Martins and Porsches. Being a brand new
manufacturer it's important we compete on the racetrack to prove our integrity and
performance and as the only diesel car on the grid we expect to make far fewer pit
stops than the competition.
We're delighted to report our first and preliminary fuel consumption result as recorded
at Millbrook Proving Ground on 8th July. At 70mph we achieved 68.9mpg. I must stress
that these figures will be improved upon and we fully expect the 70mph speed to
produce at least 75mpg. Still, it's a good start – the consumption betters still at lower
speeds. Once we have more figures available they will be used to launch our new
website – something that has been a long time coming.
We were pleased to exhibit the car at the North West Motor Show at Southport in June.
We weren't blessed with fantastic weather but the people made up for the wind and rain
and the car was very well received as always. Our Managing Director wowed the
crowds with a short demonstration of both the road and race cars which included some
outrageous wheel-spinning!
Also, in July we were invited to attend the RAF Marham (Norfolk) Friends and Families
Day. A wonderful reception and a beautiful day. It was great to see the Vulcan flying
again, along with the Red Arrows and the Hurricane. This was not a public event but
attracted many local companies from all sectors. Many people were surprised that the
car was built only a few miles from Marham and again, we were very well received.
On 24th March we had a short article in our local newspaper, the EDP. This reported on
our fuel consumption and the lack of help we have received in our quest to produce a
fuel efficient sports car. The article can be found at:

Welcome to the Trident Iceni 'brochure' – it contains all of the
technical specification for both the Iceni and IceniR and includes the
UK prices for each variant; these are the current on the road prices
including taxes. (Prices would be converted to Euros etc on the day
of any Continental transaction(s).)
The internal specification is such that we would hope no optional
extras are required. A full list will be complete as soon as we have
secured our choice of OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers),
but you can expect to have the following as standard on both
versions of the Iceni.
Two-tone leather interior (a choice from 30 colours) and matching
carpet mats
Limitless exterior colour (you choose any manufacturer and any
year and we will match the colour, including solid, metallic and
pearl finishes)
Oculight roof panels available in 4 tint colour options (Bronze, Grey,
Blue and Green) to complement your colour scheme
Air-conditioning/climate control
DAB/DVB/CD audio
Satellite Navigation
Cameras and monitors system (Iceni features no mirrors)
Adjustable steering column and pedal box (seat remains fixed)
2 year parts and labour warranty
I will notify you of any future developments along with any
adjustments to specification.
Thank you for your interest in Trident.

Nice posting Kin and this is not a criticism aimed at you in any way. BUT am I the I my person who is fed up of seeing 'another' new car with great fanfare and introduction and razzamataz and then..... Nothing.

How many new cars have been succesfully launched in the last 20 years? All I can think of are Noble, Wiesman, Aerial and Zonda (Ktm slightly different as already a succesful Bike Manufacturer and as such I has more faith with this knowledge and financial backing). Have I missed any? I haven't counted Radical as its virtually only a track car and too early for Tesla to judge.

Ok rant over, as you were guys.

Cheers

I agree, I'm also sceptical whether it would make it to full production confused2 Although the styling is not really to my taste, but one cannot ignore its performance potential with superb economy(certified 70mpg and 2000miles range is hard to ignore). I'm also a big fan of powerful diesel engine love(previously owned Merc 300td, BMW 530d, and Audi 4.0 TDI)
She also told me the unofficial figure at 30mph was 100mpg!

I THINK I could answer your question, I used to drive an actic for a living(15yrs ago), if my memory serves correctly; the engine redlines at around 2500rpm, at cruising speed of 56-60mph, the engine was revving at around 1500rpm!And thats pulling a full load and I was getting around 10-12mpg
Now..with appropriate gear ratios plus the car's slippery shape and light weight at only 1400kg, it wouldn't surprise me that at 70mph, the engine would be barely ticking over 1000rpm shocked2

Just my 2cents...
