Curiously English (with its many words of Latin origin), French, Spanish and Portuguese all use 's' to form plurals. Italian does not.

I had to do Latin at school...aghhh.

Our teacher was the deputy head mistress - a tiny fierce welsh woman...she could spot forbidden nail varnish on the girls at 80 paces easily. scared

In the front of my Latin Primer some previous wag had written...

"Latin is a language as old as old can be...it killed the ruddy Romans and now its killing me"! priceless!!

Having said that Latin taught me better english ...and I can see that it applies to some TMs too!! rofl rofl

I do so love thread drift!!!

Yes, but I would like answers to these questions:

1) With the 'Easy-Up' hood, how difficult is it to fit the tonneau cover?

2) How easy is it to remove and refit the 'Easy-Up' hood?

Would that have been Kennedy's shortbread eating primer by any chance ? ( as every copy at my school of Kennedy's shorter latin primer had been renamed).

As to Peter's question, it's called the easy up hood, not the easy off hood. The easy off hood is more commonly known as the 9 stud hood.

We had two Latin texts, one was called "Civis Romanus" which contained reading comprehension stuff, the other was called "Mentor" and was devoted to teaching the grammar.

Not for nothing was the title of the latter changed to read "Torment" by every schoolboy who had to suffer its delights...

Fortunately I was able to abandon my Latin studies in favour of science subjects after the age of 13.

with the right design cover thingy it is easy my last car had what I misguidely thought was a tonneau & a Simmonds easy up hood. It wasn't an issue.

Ah, that's interesting, I think...

Can you be more specific - what is "the right design cover thingy"? And does the Simmonds 'Easy-Up' hood differ in some way from the factory item?

Answers:

1) With the easy-up hood down, the difficulty is lifting the frame and inserting it inside the tonneau cover envelope, and locating the two catches through the holes, then pulling it neat. This will probably leave you out of breath. Conversely if you have a tonneau cover, or hood cover fitted, and need to do an emergency hood lift due to heavy rain, it is fiddly and time consuming to pull the cover away from the rear catches.

2) Easy-up going down is simple enough. Important to unfasten the one clip each side just to the rear of the sidescreens first. Putting it up is more fiddle as it can be hard to locate the header rail over the windscreen frame. If you get the seal misaligned it will leak. To be honest I think the old fashioned hood is faster to put up.

As far as I know, the Simmonds easy up used the traditional frame, which is not the same as the easy up frame. In fact there is more than one version of the trad frame.

And the Simmonds easy up used a similar header to the factory easy up header, but with external catches on the A posts, and no side frames between the top of the A posts and the pram frame.

Thanks for that. I think I am beginning to understand now. Most of my driving will be short trips of up to 100 miles or so, under virtually guaranteed blue sky, so I would want the tonneau cover.

For occasional longer trips, I would put the hood up some time in advance to avoid a last-minute panic if sudden heavy rain arrived.

It seems that the tonneau cover is a worthwhile optional extra for me, though perhaps it is more trouble than it's worth for those who drive in more changeable conditions.

To be really pedantic do you mean "raise and lower" the easy up hood or do you mean " remove and refit to car " hide

Raising and lowering takes 30-40 seconds removal and refit takes several hours sos

Fitting and removing the Tonneau cover around two minutes with practice flag
