How about a pilots licence . what next ? ) Been in a glider a few years ago , pretty scary when the tow is released , total silence and no engine !! Anyone tried hang gliding ? [/quote] Yes, tried it about 40 years ago, with friends from work, before the sport was regulated. We jumped off a hill at Mere, Wiltshire. First time was side by side with instructor and then second time was solo and intercom. I can still recall him yelling in my ear RIGHT RIGHT, TURN RIGHT. Next I tried gliding at Lasham. They forgot to take off the castor wheel on the rear of the aircraft. No harm done, landed safe and sound. Lapsed PPL. Haven't done micro lights yet.

Anyone tried hang gliding ? I did for about a year many moons ago on the Isle of Sheppy. I had to stop when my insurers refused to cover me for the Company overdraft and the instructor had to stop as we'd broken all his hang gliders. Mind you I do seem to remember him causing at least 2 broken legs and the local ambulance service were busy when we were about. Did a little gliding can be fun depends on where in the world you are Oz was about the best place as you didn't have to wait hours for the weather to be okay Tried Microlights a couple of times the jury's still out on that one. Best flight was as a passenger in a Yak that was fairly high on the buckets of sickometer. Now I'm only permitted ground level kicks

High Torque to Mass ratio - its something few people are used to and without driver aids can mean you put it in a hedge easily.
Also combined with a relatively short/squared wheelbase - catching the back end can be tricky - ala. Metro 6R4.

They also have a tendency to swap ends on a downshift if not balanced on throttle... Two friends have done that with Griffith/Chimaera. The Tuscan II seems pretty good at it whenever traction is slightly off - our local RO put himself in hospital for some time after going to overtake a Sunday afternoon driver on a slightly damp road...

Mike , seac's are a bit of a one off even in the Tvr world which is quite small and specialised as you know . I was very lucky to buy her before lots of other folks in the queue and when I sold her 5 years later after quite a few modifications to power and suspension there where ridiculus numbers of people lining up to buy the blue monster - will put a pic on here if that's allowed ! Not an easy car to drive but the best cars aren't (
Classic TVR's seem something of a bargain to me. Peter Wheelers own SEAC is presently for sale which got me thinking. In standard form wouldn't the SEAC be a fairly practical ownership proposition ? Why do you say they're not easy to drive, do you mean at the limit or just in everyday use ? Had Ian Walley of Torque v8 put his induction system on the car set up on his laptop which made her much easier to drive at 30 mph ie stopped the shunting , then had Steve Guglielmi sort out the suspension /handling - platform shocks and redesigned front wishbones , much better altogether , but still a handful , she wants to go fast ! I am very fortunate to have owned her !

Never fancied microlights, to open for me. Gliders can't say I've ever wanted to fly an aeroplane without an engine, nor have I ever wanted to jump out of a perfectly serviceable aircraft twin jets were more my thing

Rather go gliding than powered flying. A glider is designed to stay up without powered assistance which is more than can be said for a powered aircraft, particularly non-fixed wing.
One guy who took me up flew from an Aston Down near Cirencester, over the Salisbury Plain, past Portsmouth, circled over the Isle of Wight, up to Leicester, across to Telford and back to Aston Down in a day. That's some trip with no engine.
