Inspired by Plus4bassman's neat installation of a Highsider LED high level brake light I decided to fit one. Works brilliantly (excuse the pun) as a brake light, which was the main reason for fitting it, but doesn't come on with the running lights. It's not the end of the world as I don't do a lot of night driving in the Mog, but it is a bit irritating. Anybody with better electrical knowledge (so most people then ) any ideas?

Steve, as one of the things which interests/bugs me would you post a photograph? As I have mentioned before, I'm not happy with the fog guard position either but there are regs regarding the minimum distance from the brake lights.

I think, to get the LED to come on with the side/running lights you'd need two LED strips.
But I'm not sure if the rules allow a cetral rear red light, effectivly a third side light, especially one near the LED brake light.
Can anyone say for certain?

Steve.
Are you saying here there is a wire on the light to feed the brake light section and another wire to feed another set of LED's for the tail light section and that you connected one feed from the brake light circuit to the brake light section of the new lamp and another wire from the existing tail light circuit to the separate tail light section of this light.

Hi Eddie, That's right, the LED has red cable for the "brake light", I've connected that to the green/purple cable on the MOG light, yellow cable from the LED is "rear position light" which I've connected to the red light on the Mog (running light) and a black cable which is the ground.

Steve,
It would appear you need a multimeter to confirm there is voltage of around 12V at the junction of the yellow lamp wire and the red Morgan wire when the side lights or running lights are on.
If so it would appear you have faulty lamp. If there is not a voltage at that junction it's up to you to clear that possible fault.
As always double check the earth wire for tightness and if possible the connection to the chassis. I doubt it is an earth fault but never say never.

Try reversing the wires to see if the other strip works

You are giving confussing messages here.
In you original post you say the lamp does not come on with the running lights, but it does with the brakes applied, then in the last post you are infering with the wires changed they do both come on with the running lights and the brake lights. Further it is dangerouse to use a lamp that does not get brighter when braking. The regulations demand a brighter light for the brake light as it is a warning rather than just am I am here light.
If it is the case that you can get the light to illuminate with both the red and the yellow lamp wires connected and they are not at different lighting levels either the light is not fit for purpose so return it or only use it as a third brake light.
I'm not sure you have proved that both sections light at one time as you have not really confirmed that they both light up one at a time when the running lights are off but the brake pedal is applied. Then when just the running lights are on but the brakes are not pressed.
Can you confirm that it is possible to get either function of the light working without messing about with wiring and only with the running lights on, then with no running lights on but with the brake pressed.

Eddie, sorry if I've confused. When I switched the wires the LED came on with the running lights but doesn't get any brighter when the brake is applied.
