Isn't it time you guys started driving on the right side of the road. I know you have developed the habit of driving on the wrong side but in general terms very few people tilt at each other on horseback these days. Never had you for a supporter of Napoleon???

Unlike much of Europe we were never conquered by Napoleon and his right'ist ideas, in fact he met his Waterloo. Thus we have remained stubbornly left-hand drivers and long may it remain so... P.S. Sorry Graham, I see you had the same idea but I only saw your post when mine was posted. Great minds, etc!

Before I started driving in Europe I always thought that driving on different sides of the road was a bit daft and that the whole world ought to standardise. Then when I tried it I realised how the human brain is easily capable of adapting to such changes, and that it's actually completely fine so long as people understand the rules. So I have no problem with Brits driving on the left or the French driving on the right. Although admittedly the Italians' habit of driving in the shade can be a bit tricky to cope with sometimes

Driving in Germany with LHD cars, I once owned a Land Rover Series II in RHD. It was a pain in the §$%&/ to drive. I will probably never again buy a car with the wheel "at the wrong side" for the country.
For this reason probably, RHD cars in Germany are relatively cheap. It might be worth looking at German internet offers like on autoscout24.de or mobile.de for RHD cars.
Here, conversions are not really appreciated, because some conversions are of lousy craftmanship. Doing it properly is a major job on most cars.

I have much more difficulty driving our (LHD) Renault in the UK than I do driving the (RHD) Morgan in France. I put it down to the unfamiliarity of the car layout rather than the road layout.

Although admittedly the Italians' habit of driving in the shade can be a bit tricky to cope with sometimes The cricket commentator Brian Johnston used to say that in all his many visits to India he had never been able to work out which side of the road they drive on! Unlike much of Europe we were never conquered by Napoleon and his right'ist ideas, in fact he met his Waterloo. Thus we have remained stubbornly left-hand drivers and long may it remain so... Precisely. The global rule of the road was "keep left" long before there were cars, in a right-handed world it's the natural way. Similarly the first cars were all right-hand drive, it was Henry Ford who decided to shift the steering wheel to the left and other makes eventually followed. Lancia didn't make a left hand drive car until the fifties. My advice: if Mrs. Norfolk Phil happens to be left-handed keep it as it is, otherwise convert it to the proper side! ~iw

The lads and lasses around here tend to drive in the centre or on my side until they figure out (quite at the last minute) to move over just a bit. So on my jaunt yesterday I was overtaken twice in restricted areas where I was on the limit and then had the happy opportunity to trail someone who straddled the solid white line foe some kilometers but THE BEST BIT was coming round a bend to fine some chap alongside a tractor who, seeing me dived into a drive way which I thought might have been his until I checked my mirror, only to see him swing out and go on his merry way.

Blimey, it looks better than when it left the factory. If my renovation project turns out to be as half as good I'll be very pleased.
