Well in my other Roadster I think I must have a very good battery as it looks like after Fridays drive through Canal that was the A303 it looks like I have driven it for the past 3 days without an alternator about 70 odd miles - eek I thought something was amiss!

That sounds about right. I once got to Nottingham and back without charge in a simple car, but it was touch and go. At the end it was cutting out and no lights.

In a Citroen CX I drove about 200 miles (motorway) with the alternator "offline", no lights, no radio, no heater fan. That´s about three hours. Ignition only needs 2 amps or so, so on a 45Ah battery your could go on for a while. Actually, the fan is one of the major consumers of electricity, even at low level, because in many cars, also modern ones, low speeds are simply achieved by using resistors for the different speeds of the fan, which convert a lot of electricity into heat.

I'm shocked that I've started the car 8 times and used including coming home with lights and stereo on lowered the electric roof (it was slow I thought it needed greasing)
The car is electronics heavy
But no alternator warning lamp showing?
Looks like I'll be using the mog the rest of the week!

I remember back in the early 80's the alternator going on my Kawasaki KH triple on my way through the new forest at night. I was heading down to Lymington for an early start on a yacht race, so was keen to get there. It was a moonlit night and without the lights the engine ran fine, so I rode down there lights off, only switching them on when another vehicle hove into view (at which point the engine would splutter & start dying). I got there ok.

About 10 years ago i did the classic monte carlo rally in a series 2 e type (got 2nd in class), tha alternator gave in at the finish would you believe, we decided to attempt the drive home from monte carlo to essex thinking we had nothing to lose as we had break down cover. Made it all the way home with unplugged radiator fans which were not needed anyway on the auto route, soon as we slowed down at tunnell check in the temp rose so had to turn her on and off a few times but got us home.
