I guess I am even more of a cheapskate -- I got two pieces of 4x2 and made a simple T shape - width - the width of the footwell-length of the T is approx 10inches. I faced the ends with some spare leather so as not to chafe the upholstery. The benefit is that SWMBO has the footrest she wanted and anyone with longer legs also fits as their legs just go over the wings of the T down the footwell!! Simples!!!

I did the same as exbiker - a few offcuts of MDF 1x1 frame to strengthen and a couple of hinges. Covered in carpet offcuts left over from the NEC stand last Nov. - if you want some & are in the area of Derby let me know! Total cost - about 99p for hinges. Alternatively swmbo likes to rest her feet on an Aldi bag made for cars -n a black carpet type material which I keep all my bits & bobs - usually on the back shelf - £4-99 next time they have them in. Bargain!

Andrew which glue did you find worked. I've tried several but as you say the heater soon causes the tread cork rubber to come off again.

My navigator has declared that for any future long trips she needs something to put her feet on. I know Librands make a foot locker unit but it is a very full price. However if thats what it takes to keep the navigator happy i guess its a small price to pay. My question is, has anybody any experience of these foot lockers and has anybody got any alternative ideas (other than get a taller navigator !!)? I have the Librands foot locker. Yes it is top dollar but it is of very good quality. My co pilot is very pleased with it and says it makes the car more comfortable. It's very convenient for storing documents, CDs and Sat Navs. It's surprisingly capacious and I do store my SLR camera in it whilst touring. The interior is plain aluminium so I've lined mine with cut outs from an un used car mat, seems to work. Andy

Might seem extreme but I used 'no more nails invisible' which has done the job for the last 5000 miles or so and when dry any excess is invisible as it dries clear which I found useful as it's awkward to clear off all of the excess in such a confined space, I didn't bother unbolting the locker to glue back the treads. The cork/rubber is absorbent and the metal obviously isn't so the two surfaces bond incredibly well.

We have a shoulder bag that we put all the maps and documents in. It fits nicely in the footwell and the navigator advises it is an ideal footrest. We can of course remove it and carry with us if security is an issue but it's not too obvious in the depth of the footwell.
