I sent them an email requesting mine. I was told that not all letters had as yet been sent out but I was on the list. In the same email they sent a copy of my letter so I arranged for the inspection to take place next week at Krazy Horse.

However went for a ride to see my son in London and about two miles into the fifty mile journey here was a nasty noise from the engine. Stopped to check it out and saw a hole in the timing cover with a bolt head sticking through. I took the cover off and tied to tighten the bolt but it was solid, managed to limp home and changed cars so at least the weekend was not wasted.

Not so sure I will get to Krazy Horse now, I need see what's needs to be done when I return home and give them a ring to get it sorted.

Join the club.It is a horrendous sight.Every MTW should be recalled & measures taken to ensure it never happens again. Why does that bolt come undone in the 1st place AND with such force as to smash the cover??? To me it is incredible&unnaceptable

Visual inspection will do nothing as it is impossible to see fatigue cracks with the naked eye when they are in the early stages of forming.
In one of my previous jobs we used to use a very low viscosity fluorescent crack detection fluid which we sprayed onto the suspected area of the cracks, then wiped it clean and covered the area with white crack detection powder. The fluid will have cappilaried into the previously invisible cracks and the white powder would show up any crack present.
Whether a chassis is cracked or not I really doubt the ability of this new bolt in support to prevent any existing cracks (as yet invisible) from getting worse or for new cracks forming somewhere else, given that the old chassis's must have been produced from old bean cans.

For those who are worried about invisible cracks:
Every proper weld shop or welding expert can do a dye penetrant test like this one here

To inspect the areas fully, or to weld in the brackets would need the removal of the engine and the body if you want to be able to do it right both from the necessity to be able to see the area under inspection and to thoroughly remove the coating from these areas or indeed to avoid damaging the body while welding..
If the coating is complete then it will prevent dye from penetrating so giving false negative results when looking for fine cracks. Conversely, where there is any deterioration of the coating you will get false positives as the dye penetrates between the coating and the metal. Mechanical methods of coating removal may peen over the very fine initial fatigue cracks so you would want to etch the surface after grit blasting or use a chemical coating removal method.
Magnetic particle inspection would be more appropriate since it is carbon steel but coatings can again give false results so you are back to removing the coating.
I'm not currently qualified in dye penetrant nor in magnetic particle inspection but have been qualified in both, have considerable experience of using both in some seriously awkward and difficult configurations and am frequently involved in major inspection programmes. I'd stick with thorough visual inspection for this application; albeit a bit more frequently than I have been doing mine! I will also stick by my previously expressed opinion that the crack propagation from effectively undetectable to clearly visible or indeed to the point of failure of the tube is likely to be very rapid. If I'm right then there would only be a very short window to catch a fine crack so probability would be against you finding anything less than a major crack. If a structural engineer wants to model the system and comes up with a long slow propagation I will happily stand corrected...

This exact things happened to me last weekend.
Luckily my dealer ( Oakmere ) was totally on the case having dealt with a previous case, parts were ordered there and them and it was fixed the day after. Looks horrendous , but not that serious. To fix Morgan do a kit of parts for the drive pulley / bolt and oil seal and drive belt that seem a good idea. Mine was done under warranty , no idea how much if parts had to be bought.

I hope Krazy Horse are also on the ball, how did you get the car to the dealer, did they organise a pick up?
