I agree, the earlier XK8 in coupe form is a stunning looking car and relatively cheap. There are moments when I look at the "first" XK8 and think - hhhmmmmmmm nice car - and then you look at the driver all cramped in - and then you look at the oh so 1980s Jag dash and you realise the beauty is only skin deep. (Although the latter R models are well sorted). The more recent XK on the other hand is superb. OK the infotainment is a bit rubbish but the rest of the package in superb. The R-S is over powered and will go sideways with a mere brush of the throttle - but the 5.0 is a wonderful companion. It can sound all naughty when you want it to and it can be a nice lazy V8 cruiser when you have a continent to cross. Depreciation is pretty brutal on them too!

Jaguar sports cars have never been big on interior space but I'm 6ft and I fit in ok; not as cramped as some sports cars. I also think that the beauty is more than skin deep, the engineering is pretty good for the time especially once they had sorted the early engine problems.

I would by myself a boat. Or otherwise (that is, if SWMBO doesn´t agree with the boat) I´ll keep the Morgan.

I don't think I could replace the Morgan because there is nothing else out there that has the charisma, simple mechanics, cheap running costs and sound investment of the Morgan. I agree with Howard there are some cracking fast cars for sale at the moment and scarily quick, but none could 'replace' the Morgan.

There is nothing which could replace the feel of a Morgan. If I would be forced to replace her, I would chose a car with a similar mix of old and new in terms of old but thrilling drive experience vs. good reliability. I could go with a car where fun has priority and not value. This could be a Porsche 356 speedster replica which indeed is affordable but will never rise in value. Because the chassis is an old beetle one, she gets a historical plate, at least in Germany. I would buy a car like this one. www.hemmings.com/classifieds/cars-for-sale/replica/speedster/1748496.html

I had a couple of XKR's and fitted in easily.... I was tempted, very tempted, by the new 5 Litre version - but opted for a Morgan instead.

No. Despite frustrations it is just tooooo beautiful.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

We seemed to have moved away from Johns original question...what would you replace the Morgan with if you'd reached the point of not easily getting in and out of it! I'd chosen a Mk2 Jag.......on the basis of most of you ignoring the question I'd replace it with a Proteus C Type!

Based purely on current prices one has lost nothing (perhaps even risen in price) the other has lost about 30,000chf!
