I remember reading that Peter Morgan was very protective of licensing Morgan related merchandice and Morgan car models so I can't understand how Morgan replica car kits that would infringe copyright could be sold

Built it yourself?
Restored it yourself? (Acceptable, in spite of the non-cherished "10" plate).
These have a wooden chassis, don't they?
Dad, is that a real car? (Heard as I drove slowly past a primary school at going-home time).
We get these all the time but, as a senior contributor to the Lotus 7 Club's magazine told me when I had a Caterham, "answer their questions with a smile; be polite; gently educate them; and always remember that they are only day-dreaming - but you have got one".

Have a look at the Hawke kit car. In the flesh from a few yards or when driving along these would pass as a Morgan.

Surely it is wrong to say that no Morgan ever had a wooden chassis.

MMC did produce a series with a wooden chassis - the pedal car!!

Great advice. It is in fact exactly what I do. The guy yesterday had a couple of kids with him and I nearly invited them to sit in the car. Something I often do.

At a certain point yesterday 2 16 year olds on a very load twostroke passed us in traffic and the pillion turned to give us a broad smile and a thumbs up. Another I heard say it was like Arsenio Lupin's car (Arsenio Lupin is a comic book and anime character).

Not unusual to here kids call out "Great car" or "Look! It's Crudelia De Mon's car" (Cruella de Vil).

I saw one earlier this year at the Liphook Father's Day gathering. It did look convincing from a distance but close up the flat bonnet was the first thing to give it away. It looked well built though..

From kids I've only had "RED CAR" from an intellectually challenged pie fan. And "Chitty Chitty BangBang" from another.
At Gaydon few years ago a father & son were looking at my Roadster. The son was about 8. I asked him if he'd like to sit in it. Initially he declined - obviously the message not to get in strangers cars had sunk in. Once his dad had given him the ok he was in. He will never forget that experience and that's how it begins.

My 4/4 has often been accused of being a Bentley by French people (I guess it's the wings on the logo), I've been asked if it's an Aston Martin on a couple of occasions, and yesterday an old lady on the pavement as I crawled by in heavy traffic asked me if it was a Delage (which I felt was rather swish....).

I'm often congratulated on how brilliantly I've restored it, but never been asked if it's a kit car. They don't really have such things over here as the whole business of "conformité" makes it extremely difficult.
