What are the UK regs for day light lights?
I see my Roadster has pre dilled hole in the over riders which are quite low down.

You might notice I quoted the two conditions in which it is legal to use fog lights, depending in which part of the country you live this may mean you may never use your fog lights, or maybe a couple of dozen times a year, and even then their usefulness is questionable, dip beam often being better anyway, especially modern lights with a sharp cut off, so why do most modern cars have them, and if they were replaced by spot lights, correctly wired of course, would it then be legal to use them, even if fitted at the height of fog lights, an why?

Fog lights do dazzle because they are set low and have a straight out beam. Spotlights have to go out when dip headlights are on, consequentially no dazzle.

My front fogs basically light up the road for a SHORT distance in front of the car, hence useless as a dipped beam replacement, dipped headlights illuminate a good distance further ahead as per legal alignment requirements.
Mine are fitted to the front of the wing...I am thinking of simply removing them and fitting spots as that is where spots rend to be anyway. Spots will give me better night vision when on main beam, despite my current bulbs being upgraded to Nightbreakers that give a small improvement only.

Exactly, they only throw out light for a short distance, but more importantly for country road driving is the fact that they light up the edges well which is very useful, and I'm sorry Keith, I have to disagree with you about the dazzle, they don't throw enough light forward to dazzle, why don't you conduct some tests and see?

I think we will have to agree to disagree on this one, many of the fog lights fitted today do indeed dazzle.

What's also annoying on moderns is this new idea of switching on one of them when turning to illuminate close in to the vehicle on a corner. Twice I've not seen an indicator due to these...

If you are travelling in your Morgan at the speed of light and you turn on your spot lamps, would they light up?
