Has anyone had to replace the immobiliser fob for their +8? I have one that does not work after running over it doh! feel a bit vulnerable without a spare. Have looked on Amazon and Ebay but they only seem to sell spare cases. Not sure where to go to get replacement, any advice would be most welcome.

Have you taken the squashed one apart? Might be a simple fault that only requires a new casing?

Yes, not too squashed all looks fine but just will not work, even the casing is not badly damaged.

Sounds daft, but is the battery OK?

As Graham suggests...... You may get lucky and spit an easy to repair fault. Look at the battery holder for damage or bent contacts. Check the push button action for similar. The casing is reasonably sturdy but the buttons are exposed on rhe surface. Other than that MMC or a dealer may help. Try a Landrover dealer but may get ££££ from them.

Jack - Yes have tried new battery.
Sospan - Push button action seems ok and internals look ok too, a bit of a mystery really.

On my T16 powered +4 you needed to send the ECU & the immobilizer plus new fobs to a Rover technician to set them up or you can disable the immobilizer connections to the ECU.
I had to replace the ECU on my T16 and the replacement was set up to ignore the immobilizer.

Hi LE52 Try this website www.remotekey.co.ukThey have a wide range of services and their instructions for battery changing worked for my 2002 Plus 8. I understand the fob was used for the Range Rover P38 amongst other MG Rover products. Lots of info on their site. Hope this helps ! Andrew Green Glorious Devon

When I bought my 2002 +8 it came with two sets of keys, both immobiliser plip type. I checked both and all ok. I replaced batteries on both with ones from a high turnover shop ( assumed the stock would not be old). One at a time just in case. My reasoning was I knew the age of the batteries. Changing was straight forward replacement, but I think there was a limited timespan to get the new battery in after removing the old.(?). Googled for instructions and precautions. I use the spare occasionally to make sure it works and has the spare set when we go away for weekends etc. A bit belts and braces maybe, but peace of mind stuff for trips away. I forget what the procedure was for a new key regarding programming it. With my Fords there was a procedure involving inserting the key into the ignition and going through a on/off/bleeps process. Had to do it once on a Focus and straight forward.

After problems at the week end with plip working intermitently have been talking to Kevin Vernon at Tudor who suggested having the immobiliser switched off. Apparently it is done via a software programme, unfortunately he does not have the software.
Have also spoken to my insurance company who advise it will not increase my premium because while it is insured for theft it is not classed as a risk on a Morgan.
Now I just need to find someone with the necassary software, maybe a Rover/Land Rover dealer.
Andrew, thanks for info will have a look.
