What do I put on it,if anything, to protect it from wet and birdy poo?
How do I clean it?

Isn't it supposed to protect YOU from such things?

It may be sacrilage but a short blast with cold water from a power washer has shifted muck from my mohair roof.

Mind you - I rarely use the roof but it's still waterproof in downpour conditions.

Cold water is enough to wash it

The only two of which I've had experience ( and on an MG rather than a Morgan) are by Renovo ( www.renovointernational.com)
and Autoglym ( www.autoglym.co.uk )

The Autoglym stuff is marketed as 'Mohair Hood Cleaner' but they also do what they describe sas a 'kit' for cleaning Cabriolet Fabric Hoods.
I haven't tried the kit so can't comment.

Otherwise, I found both the Autoglym and the Renovo to be good

The important thing with birdypoo is to get it off asap, because it has the potential to stain if full of berry dye,(seasonal variations)- or bleach. It's worth carrying some wet wipes if you leave it outside away from home with the hood up.

Just to back that up Dave, the alkaline content of it- with or without berry content- can also play hell with paintwork and lead to discolouring, so another reason to get the stuff off asap

Working on the basis that prevention is better than cure, one of the lightweight waterproof covers is a good idea, especially if parking under trees etc. They are advertised in Miscellany eg Walker St Clair or John Taylor for a larger one which covers the bonnet louvres as well.

I also find that the Mohair can get quite dusty (although not a problem in the current weather conditions!) and brushing with a clothes brush or something similar helps restore the appearance.

I used John Taylor's large storm cover on our North Devon trip - it's an excellent product(no connection).

I used a product called RaggTopp to treat the canvas roof on my old Boxster. The product caused the roof to become water repellant and allowed bird droppings to be rinsed off with a hose. The roof needed to be treated once or twice per year to maintain the water repellancy. It did not discolor the roof and was invisible when applied and dried. I also had luck with another product called Aerospace 303 Protectant, before I discovered the RaggTopp. You need to be careful as some of the products available, such as Porsche water proofer, are difficult to remove from paint or plastic windows and require any area you do not want treated to be taped over. RaggTopp and 303 both come off of paint and windows easily.
