Like you Stewart...M6 nightmare. Joining further north than you also had problems near Lancaster due to the damaged bridge. Resolutely hood down all the way....Wen insisted 🙄. A kindly truck driver offered to stop the traffic so that we could put the hood up! Didn’t get too wet and it’s only water 🤪

It only takes 45 minutes longer than if the motorway's clear (which it never is) and it's a nice drive.

tmg13, that I the route I take to get to Ruabon avoiding the M ways, it is a lovely drive. The M6 in particular always seems like a car park

Riom to Chaverny 156 miles, avoiding motorways. Onwards to Ouisterham tomorrow and should just about clock up 1000 miles in 7 days by the time we are home tomorrow night. Mostly hood down but tomorrow’s forecast for northern France suggests otherwise.
Saw a French registered TR3 this morning and an old Merc this afternoon, but otherwise nothing to wave at. Attracted a few toots, waves and thumbs up from French drivers over the last few days. Rather more than I get in the UK.

Today I finally found time to clean and drive the Morgan after arriving back from the UK on 2nd August. The log book tells me the old girl has done just under 4,300 miles since we set out for Le Mans on 2nd July.
The run from Stotfold back to Vienna was done with four overnight stops: South Kensington, Amiens, Rheinland-Pfalz, and a small town in Bavaria. The run down the A16 from Calais to Amiens in the late afternoon was the best of it with brilliant light, little traffic and a sweet running car. The Amiens overnight stop was planned to allow a visit to the Australian national memorial at Villers-Bretonneux the next day. Emotional and humbled we then pushed on across France and into Germany, staying overnight at a small wine village (Kirchheim) in Rheinland-Pfalz.
A note to Brits crossing from France into Germany. Driving like a homicidal maniac once you are on German autobahns is optional, not compulsory. And if the traffic is heavy and the visibility poor in heavy rain then it might even be wise to lift off a bit. We couldn't help but note the number of UK plated cars behaving badly.
And then on to Bavaria in 36 degree heat. South of Nuremberg the generator began screaming "enough". The rear bearing had cooked. At a local garage we found mechanics who were suddenly enthused to be working on a real car. A new (Bosch overhauled) generator was freighted in and next morning we continued on in high temps to Vienna.
Final note. After its service at Techniques the car has never run better with lots of little problems fixed. I think it pays to get a proper Morgan workshop to go over your car now and then, even if you think you are able to do most maintenance yourself.
An amazing month of Morgan travel. Cheers. k

I totally agree with your comments about Techniques. I am lucky enough to have them as my nearest Morgan workshop and they really know how to get the best out of a Morgan.

Picked number 3 son up from Ipswich train station. A nice chance to push the car along the A14 & over the Orwell bridge is reasonable weather. As senior is with us for a long weekend I took time over the drive to avoid the comments on the new house etc.

A very agreeable drive on the Route des Grande Alpes from Cluses to Val d'Isere, followed by a not quite so agreeable ride from Val d'Isere to the Col de L'Iseran. The ride down was good though.
