I'm sure I've read something on here but can't find it.

Does anyone have any experience with the Dodo Juice Buff Daddy DAS-6 polisher?

Can you fit small pads to get into some of the more awkward curves on the Morgan?

What is the best compound to use on the Morgan paint finish?

I bought one of the Meguiars orbital polishers after trying one out at the TM workshop morning over at their Daventry HQ. I had a certain bonnet in mind, but I'm minded not to as yet.

Amongst the things we asked on the day was how much, how far etc etc and the consensus was not to go too far into small gaps unless absolutely necessary, but to use finger pressure to do the same role, until you achieve a uniform finish to match.

It appears most dual action orbital polishers are much of a muchness, with certain ones having better switches, feel, quality and the like, but they all depend upon the operator, and I was really surprised just how little practice they need. Neil had come along in his wife's car, and it was the bonnet of this we were practicing on..!

As to compound, we used their polishing compound (not sure exactly which, but will look it up..) on an up/down pattern with light pressure.

I think Stewart is the accomplished DIY expert with this, he was taking many notes..!!

Does this help..?

I have a DAS Pro.
I bought it after attending the Auto Finesse demo day at Williams. Excellent day with hands on instruction and advice.
The dual action means it is safer than pure rotary as the pad stops so polishing stops. I have Auto Finesse polishes that are designed to stop polishing after a while for extra safety. I also have Meguiars.
Curved bodywork needs care. I have smaller pads to help.

Oops....need to add that there are very good videos in there on “how to”.

I've got a Buff Daddy, it came with the original 125mm backing plate and pads but I picked up a 75mm plate and pads at the NEC Classic show a year or so back. I use it with the Meguiar's compound. It works very well, but like Steve I steer clear of trying to get into the really tight curves.

One of the more interesting features of the Meguures kit , is, the machine maintains the speed regardless of how much pressure is applied.

Are you sure about this? When we were at the Meguiar's training day they were at great lengths to show us how the DAS polishers stopped if you pressed too hard, thus preventing you from damaging the paintwork by inadvertently applying too much pressure.

The Meguiares Megeirs Maguairs Meguires Meguaires Meguairs one (one will be right) just slows to a stop if you put too much pressure on so it’s hard to burn the paint if you keep it moving

Of course if you just leave it in one place for a very long time even without too much pressure on there will be too much heat and damage can be done

But if you keep it moving slowly on the right speed settings with a polishing compound that’s not stupidly abrasive, it’s pretty much idiot proof

I’m sure it will be the same with the Dodo one

Catching edges of louvres is the biggest problem with a polisher on a Mog regardless of pad size so always either:

Steer clear of the Louvre area all together by masking a good inch all around the whole Louvre area so you are not tempted to go too close

Or

Mask over all Louvre edges (boring and time consuming) so you can polish the flat raised bits only

If polishing the bonnet when its open and supported, make sure you also mask the edges of the bonnet so you don’t catch an edge where the paint might be thin

Same applies to any edge including the raised edge of the wing - mask up fine people!

Indeed it is, they are all just re-purposed Dual-action Sanders, hence the DAS tag.

At the Autofinesse day at Williams they had both DAS and pure rotary machines.
There was a significant higher heat build up you could feel by using pure rotary. Hence their advice to start learning with DAS.
Also take great care on edges/tight curves/ louvres and bulges.
The process prior to polishing was important too.
Power wash.
Shampoo.
Rinse.
Clay with plenty of lubrication.
Polish
Protection coat(wax or sealant).
Do not polish unless paint is PROPERLY clean.

Thanks all,

I'll have a look at the NEC to see if there are any deals.
