I saw one of the group headed towards Pembrey range just afyer lunch. There was a flypast over the range planned as they arebeing phased out. Shame I couldn’t get to the range. A press release said 3 Tornados would fly over. There was one parked up for many weeks last year in Swansea Airport.

Many years ago I was a 17 years old soaring student. It was one of my first thermal flights, in a tiny Ka 8. During this flight flew two Tornados under my sailplane, very close. I was very impressed and had big heartbeats. I´ll never forget it.

I don't think it has been announced publicly yet. There is a bit of a fight going on it would appear. Tonka got a lot of development over her 40 years and the Typhoon has not yet got the same capability despite an impressive sprint by BAE to add additional capability. With the F35 not due to be in operational service with the RAF until 2020 we have a bit of a gap. I suspect they will be locked in a hanger for a bit. The initial F35's are due to be put on the new carrier I think.
There will be three Tornado final flights shortly. I believe one will include Boscombe which I may pop along for. Tonka was held in high regard.

Fond memories of the Tornado. Early in my career I worked at Filton making components for the engines. As engine developments were routine, Tornado & F111 flights were a daily occurrence.
