Thanks for the info Don. Since selling my 986(S) I've not been following the changes/updates (in case I'm tempted again! ). Nice photo BTW

I nearly bought a 944 a few years back. I was up for it until the seller mentioned emissions problems and his mechanic unable to resolve it at MOT, but it passed .....

That one is expensive! A quick search of comparible cars on sale shows that to be the case. I bought a 986 (boxster ) at under a quarter of the price. It has all the same 'risks"associated with rear oil seal, IMS, clutch etc. IMHO just as much fun. But hey were all different And the Boxsters handle better 🤪

I’ve had a boxster and a 996, both trouble free. I sold the 996 with 90k miles and I still see it going about today. The one you’ve shown, being a later model, has the nicer shaped front lights and a better interior finish, looks a good example. My personal opinion, I don’t like the convertible 911, it ruins the shape, but I did like the Targa of the eighties and especially the latest 991 version with the bling hoop.

To each his own. But I personally don't like a 911 convertible either. With the 356 and the old speedster it's something completely different.
I don't want to take anybody's joy out of a 911 convertible. But it is simply not designed in this way and somehow a women's car.
A real Targa on the other hand, with the exception of the ugly 993, 996 and 997 Targa is a car that I really like.

I am not a fan of the convertible version either.

I like the early Targa models too. The roofless models are spoiling the overall lines. A Targa trad Morgan? Now there is a topic to stir the emotions.

Funnily enough, I do like convertible Beetles, the newest one in particular , with the retro polished wheel trims and tan or maroon mohair hood are especially pretty, and the high door line means the rear occupants aren’t blasted by the warm breeze we pretend we feel.

Well, My mate's taken it out for a test drive and fallen in love with it. The dealer is an independent Porsche specialist, is offering to do the IMS bearing for peace of mind and is offering a 3-year warranty up to £5000. I think he'll go for it.

He may already have done this Tim, but suggest he asks the dealer to whip the wheels off so he can get a good look at the inner faces of the brake discs. Porsche rotors are very soft steel and the hidden inner face is where corrosion starts when cars are not used often or hard enough - as is often the case with models like the cabrio. If pitting has set in, the cost of a set of discs should be negotiated with the dealer now - they are not cheap!
