I've always believed a glass of red wine a day, with supper, is more beneficial than damaging. Unfortunately over the years we started drinking too much. Never a problem with hangovers, of any other short term consequence. Once Caroline's liver is recovered and when we feel the time is right, we will return to a bottle over the weekend. At the moment neither of us feel any urge to drink, though I did have a bottle of alcohol free beet with supper yesterday.
One side effect is that my sense of smell is improving and I'm sleeping much more soundly.

I returned most of our wine to our local Majestic store: they took it all back and credited me, sad to lose a regular customer, but full of understanding and sympathy. The manager gave me a bottle of alcohol free red wine: it will be interesting to see if it is palatable. Part of me views alcohol free wine and beer rather like vegan sausages...but only a small part.

Some of the ultra low alcohol wines and fizzies are okay, they just seem overly sweet in many cases so this does mean the selection is reduced. Larger tesco and sainsburys will have a reasonable range. I usually drink the LIDL sugar free lemonade with a dash of sugar free robinsons in it for flavour. Or Tea/Coffee.

I was given an alcohol free gin and tonic yesterday. It was exactly like a glass of tonic. Really, no taste of gin at all.
It had cost the giver quite alot in Waitrose. Amazing.

I like a glass of tonic, I find it refreshing. Why people like Gin so much passes me by.

I really only like Port & Brandy (blame Budster), and Kings Ginger, either straight, or with whisky.

Other spirits don't interest my taste buds.

I have a bottle of Lyres Non Alcoholic London Spirt... made in Australis and £23.00 a bottle from Masters of Malt. Mixed with Tonic, about 50/50 it tastes just like G&T. But I wonder if it is worth the bother. Who am I fooling?

I have had a problem with my blood sugar level and had to cut back on what I drink. Rather than give up though I only now drink on Friday & Saturday evenings and that works for me.

I stopped drinking at 16 years old Yes I know . But someone had to carry my mates home and I wanted a car . Dad was worried as I wanted a m/bike first and I had already smashed a bike and me up . Ended up in hospital . Others said "I could not make it . But they did not know my will power , I have the odd 1/2 shandy ( a couple a year ) . . Looks like June put me on the right road . Yet I used to have the odd night out with my late mates and carry them home pin them against the wall while I went into there pockets for a door key let them fall in on the door mat and pop the key in the l/box . Then walk home . The bit I hated was they got to bed long before me and would call in the m/ing mam would send them up stairs to my room and they would wake me up and drag me out of bed along the landing into the bathroom turn the shower on and chuck me in . They are all gone only me left . I saved Fred's life and oddly he saved mine . No seat belts them days and sliding doors as I went round a corner my ass slipped across the plastic seat and I was falling out onto the road quick as a flash Fred grabbed me and pulled me back . Hardly a day go past with out him in my mind . I have a home made card that he made I keep it, as its a very rude poem and pop it on the mantle . I sent a copy to BHM a few year ago . But warned them first , they saw the funny side

I've been dry for three years. No medical reason - it just happened and like stopping smoking, once you get a few weeks into it, you dont restart because you know you would feel that you had wasted all those weeks so far. Maybe with me its psychological because I have given up for 6 months or a year several previous times.

That said I had a pint of cider at a recent weekend away because I didnt want to label myself TT. Didnt want or need a straightjacket.

I definitely wake up brighter when I dont drink and several of my pals have found the same thing. Thats despite me never driking more than 4 pints anyway. Seems to me like a message - if you feel better when not boozing then you clearly must be doing yourself some harm when you are boozing.

Becks Blue is one of the best beers though I did try some low alcohol real ale ( Old Peculair I think) which was way better. Stowford Alcohol Free cider is also good and isnt just like apple juice. But most of the time I drink straight tonic with a slice of lemon because some people's reaction to you being TT is negative. Straight tonic looks just like G&T.

I never started.
Did not like the feeling of being influenced by any drug at all.
ok, sports are my kind of drug - like the feeling of being totally exhausted.


So itˋs tonik without Gin and tee for me - dońt miss a thing.

People around tend to drink less... although I donˋt bother...

The J shaped curve is oft quoted and very misleading - the graph should actually be a straight line.

The J part of the curve represents reformed alcoholics and previous very heavy drinkers whose live expectancy will be less than their piers even though they have stopped or considerably reduced their consumption because of the damage already caused to their bodies.
