Quick question, why fix the route totally, one of the benefits of live map on a connected phone is the dynamic traffic avoidance?

I would recommend having a google account then using google maps (through chrome browser) to plot the route. Just use multiple waypoints and you can have as many as you like. We did this to go around Europe. Then you can save it/add it as a route. When you look on your google maps application on your phone it should be accessible through this. This will allow dynamic point to point routing with fixed points in the key places you need them.

Google bought Waze some time back so Google Maps has most of the waze stuff built in and will give the same results. The benefit is being able to do the route planning and save it to your google account across devices.

you can certainly plan a route on the Garmin software on the computer and squirt it down to a garmin gps to use in the car but I doubt that you can transfer the route onto google maps since the garmin maps and the google ones are different. The Garmin susyem allows you to print off directions or maps.

A mobile device running Google Maps should produce voice instructions anyway. I've used it on my iPhone quite often.

Sorry for a minor thread hijack but is there a satnav phone app that allows you to select 'truck'.... Mine gives directions for walking, car and public transport... I race a hillclimber so run a large camper pulling a large trailer... Many hillclimbs are tucked away deep in the countryside and my satnav has pulled me into some seriously tight spots in 'car' mode while trying to be helpful.... A 'truck' mode to keep me off sheep tracks would be very useful

There is only one answer to your problem Image - cross check with a map. Lots of truckers end up in the situation you describe because map data on road widths is patchy at best. Thats why its better to plan your route using large scale maps on a PC and then downloead onto the sat nav

My suggestion is a product that I have used for many years and is now freeware! It started as a piece of route planning software for 'Bikers' and allows you to drag routes to fit a specific 'tour or drive' which I found very intuitive. The early version called Tyre to Travel continues as a Windows based product and you can dowload compatible SatNav files for several GPS manufacturers. There was a 'split' in the development and one of the developers (I think) has taken the product - 'MyRoute App' into Apple as well as Windows and even offers an App on Iphone's etc. so may be a better fit. It is a subscribe service.
