You can even have some nice Mercedes colours.

When we chose silver for the Evoque, the salesman said ”oh, well, yes, that colour is becoming popular again....”
Wish I’d chosen dark grey, it looks great on that car. Or maroon.
Don’t know why I’m telling you this, it doesn’t really trouble me

A Mercedes garage car park near me is a sea of grey with only one yellow A class in it. I don't get the fascination with all things grey. Reminds me of getting old oldgit (Some of my hair for example, well at least it's still there!).

I was asked by a Porsche garage in 2005 to put an extra deposit down when I ordered a white Boxster, they said it was required in case I cancelled because if I did, they would have so much trouble selling it on... I refused they gave in and when it arrived they put the car in the showroom and sold an extra 4 cars just from drive by onlookers and a Carrera owner changed his colour to white after seeing it. Which I found all very odd as I had always thought Porsche's were supposed to be white abit like Mercedes silver. Plus it was in Essex.

Anyway I'd like to apologise for causing so many people to drive white cars since then. Who'd of known I was such a trendsetter oops

I like grey cars - my last 9 have all been grey, and I still own 4 grey ones (all with black/dark painted wheels). Why?? Simple - I have too much to do to waste time washing them. And grey cars never look dirty.

Mind you, this can't be said about the current fashion for 'barely grey' off-white colours such as Suzuka Grey (Audi) Crayon or Heron Grey (Porsche) or Campovolo (Abarth). They do look nice if a little too high maintenance for me. My son & I joke that these colours (sic) should be called "Izit Grey"

I have never liked grey and I can't understand why it is popular when I would expect it to be the least safe colour. I read an article years ago that Yellow is the safest colour as white can blend into the concrete jungle we now live in.

When we bought our Octavia it was a choice of Blue, Black, white or a few different shades of grey. We wanted a manual and with that gearbox could buy a black demonstrator or a grey one that had the same specs as we wanted but in the end my wife said no we will wait 3 months for a special order and take Blue. 9 months later the car finally turns up and it looks very nice but there is a nice Green and nice red one. The green is now a stock colour for the Octavia. My wife says I like that green maybe next one we will got for that and I said I like the red. I mentioned to the dealer that the brochure he showed us didn't have those colour options, his replied when you order a car it has to be made to your specs and while we will not buy different paint Skoda is happy for you to chose any colour from any more, the red is a Rapid colour and the Green a Fabia colour. I was a bit grumpy he told me afterwards rather than when we ordered the car but I am still very happy with the blue.

When my manual turned up the dealer told me he got 5 orders for manuals that weekend while it sat there in the showroom. People do still like manuals but I guess don't realise you can still get some cars with a real gearbox until they see one.

At least you can buck the trend with a Mog.

Never been a fan of the controlled dull palette most cars come in.

Autocarp - is this written by a dyslexic?
BUT - grey cars are needed because they also come without lights and can only be used in the fog or at dusk. It keeps the car bodyshops in business

The results are slightly misleading, especially due to the way the Manufacturer & the DVLA first logs the car colour

If you spec proper bright silver, that's what it gets listed as, if you happen to have a mid or dark silver (not a true battleship grey) then all these get listed as Grey, as there isn't a category for 'dark silver' according to the DVLA

Hence these magazine articles still keep plying the "grey is the most popular colour crap"

A nice bold colour from Mercedes for a lovely bold car, taken at the DTM meeting at Brands Hatch 2018 the last year of the V8's racing frown
