I am a fan of Porsche and have been for more years than I care to remember, thus have loads of memories so related as the result of a very much required hands-on interaction over those years, some of which I may have shared on here already.. In a bit to cut short my usual rambling habit, perhaps enough to type that my selective Luddite tendencies cause me to much prefer the purity of design of the air cooled era, as opposed to the, some might say, somewhat flawed engine design that followed when it seems likely that the company had to resort to water cooling which in time has become somewhat tarnished with what seems like far too many reports of IMS failure and bore scoring in perhaps as many of 3% of production of 996 and through to 997.1 over many years up till the introduction of the 992. 2, which I must admit came as a shock to me when perhaps two or more years ago I thought as the result of my ageing process restricting enjoyment of my Morgan, a return to Porsche ownership might seem a reasonable way forward, in the process I then discovered the gamble involved in the purchase of a water cooled Porsche, and of course the exponential rise in the "market" value of the earlier air cooled Porsches... My friend bought a 964 in 2009 for £16k and in the last year I have seen a very similar 964 to the one he bought advertised in the same classic car dealership for £42k, which seems somewhat OTT to the likes of me.. Initially the obvious early Porsche corrosion issues that were addressed to some degree in mid seventies 911s, and which reduced their tendency to rot, though now some twenty or so years on from a time when I was repairing the ravages of corrosion on my 1982 911, it seems if buying an air cooled Porsche it might be best to consider possible corrosion issues that may lie under a perfect coat of paint and polish...Hmm..? Other of my considerations relative to evaluation of air cooled was that with the changes in the chemical makeup of fuels in that E10 is not suitable for use in any air cooled Porsches, and if I now add the predicted financial future as the result of Covid relative to the "market" value of air cooled....Hmm..? Those who are avid market watchers ever advise that markets can both rise and fall and given the experts vision of the future, perhaps a 997.2 looks to have more of a future for use as a sports car, all be it a modern sports car. I guess if you might like to contemplate "investment" value relative to a Porsche purchase then perhaps a 997.2 as the last of the the normally aspirated 911 derivatives, with non fly by wire steering, and in the form of a GTS model, might be a future classic worthy of consideration... IF "Classic car investments might in any way exist after the possible Covid effect on all areas of every Western economy...? With a bit of luck, pics of my Porsches might appear below...All looking at their best. https://www.tm-img.com/image/totO1https://www.tm-img.com/image/toeqUhttps://www.tm-img.com/image/gWYpp

I had one of the latest 911 Turbo S cars as a loan car for a couple of weeks recently. The best analogy I can think of is it was like using Red Rum to do Donkey rides on the beach. Theres nowhere to use the performance, & it spent 99.9999% of the time at about 950rpm the other 0.0001% seemed to be at 7000rpm if you did more than tickle the accelerator. Only got about 18mpg out of it as well.
I never bettered 12 to15mpg out of my 930 with a very light foot and on one notable spirited motorway drive in heavy traffic forever accelerating up and down the box between 2 and 3rd.......got just over 5 mpg. regards

Many thanks for sorting out my miserable attempt to post pics Graham... Just when I thought I had come to grips with the process... Duh..!
Glad you liked the pics, I had a week touring the lakes with a 944 when it was a new car, and too much hands-on with a pals 928, though have zero experience with water cooled 911 derivatives.

Well spotted. The stop was possible as we had come off the Ring of Skellig whilst driving the Wild Atlantic Way.
A cracking journey for anyone planning post lock down jaunts.

While I perhaps fit into the category of a Porsche fan "boy" I have not driven as many Porsches as this chap... and in this vid he drives something...err... different. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ip99CYytaIQIf you might have come here looking for Porsche info, Roger has made a stack of Porsche vids, the one below features the 997 GTS. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIBZuY6sXCE&t=312s

Arrived Thursday, never really got to grips with the early Porsche's, but as the interiors improved and certainly leaped forward in 2012 + this new model Targa arriving i started to like them. I only went to test drive this one as it was local to me, really wanted to purchase a 17-18 plate, but learned that this model is the last of the 3.8 ltr normally aspirated, after 2016 they drop to a 3.0ltr with Turbo fitted, if I can get a car to power up normally rather than boosted I much prefer this way, any how after a couple of offers and some hard negotiating it came my way. Demo + 1 owner absolutely out of the box still as new., let's see how it does. Why the Porsche and not the Aero, there is some reasoning to this, I have been suffering some serious head aches the last couple of years, after lots of medical researching at the hospitals and home notes we finally discovered I have Arthritis in the Jar bones brought on by driving with either windows open or roof down, also anything like swimming or cycling in the cold winter months, the Targa seemed to be the resolve hopefully and there was not much choice of daily drivers that could adapt into a European Tourer also. We will give it a shot and see how we get on, if it doesn't resolve the issue it looks like it will be closed in Tin Tops with Air Con on in the future. https://www.tm-img.com/image/toT0uhttps://www.tm-img.com/image/tow57
