Now there are some very wise folk on here so I thought I’d seek a little advice.
I’ve seen a couple of cars I’d consider buying as my ‘lockdown 3 project’. All are private sales. For COVID reasons I’m not able to travel to inspect them personally but i am prepared to take the gamble anyway. I’d have to use a transport company to deliver the car to me. I wouldn’t expect a seller to release his car without payment. I don’t want to send payment until I’m certain the car has been released. Catch 22.
Any solutions? Cheers
Ps. I know I can buy from a dealer and use a credit card, distance selling rules then apply. Dealers have massively inflated their prices as a result.

Ian that was just what occurred to me too. The website seems not to handle GBP . I have only used it on major civils projects. I guess it may be available for smaller sums.

Why not use Paypal. There are all sorts of buyer and seller protection methods available.

This Escrow service claims to be FCA authorised: TranspactI suggest you check the FCA status for yourself - I have not used it, I found it with Google so no warranty etc.

Thanks for the ideas, I’ll look into escrow.
Not much chance using PayPal. They charge 4% and getting your money back isn’t easy even when the item doesn’t arrive. (Voice of experience here)

I don't think delivering project cars is considered a necessary journey
