I watched the video describing the flood and cant take Hamster seriously. He plays the part of being a bit of a twit but maybe its not just an act!

Making it a total loss is a nonsense. It makes no economic sense, neither is it a green solution. All the metal parts on Hammonds car, plus the wheels would be salvageable. If the water wasn't deep the hood would be salvageable. The whole thing is ridiculous. On some cars it does seem nuts to do this but I imagine legal liability is the main problem, keeping dangerous or risky repaired cars off the road. It would make more sense to treat things like damaged Aero's like cases of wine. Buy the wreck, dismantle it for spares and lay them down until the mature (no others to be found) and then bring them out for sale! The lumpy bits should be fairly safe if selected carefully.

I’d imagine the write off is simply the cheapest solution for the insurers, the car will return a relatively high value, immediate payout with no need for rentals and the customer can have no future issues. I don’t have the skills but if I wanted a damage repairable, a flooded hand built car should be an achievable task. Next time he should buy a trad, these all have self draining built in,g

I think flood damaged cars are written off these days and perhaps even crushed..? I had read somewhere It seems the thinking is that possible sewerage contamination as in floods, could have potential to cause future issues for the insurance company..?

I find the guy to be a total prat. So blase about losing a car that most of us would dream of owning. If you see his video on drive tribe, his silly smugness re the loss is infuriating.

I must admit I did find his attitude and comment more than just a bit "flip" as they say these days.
His previous enjoyment of the marque raised him in my eyes, that didn't.
