Hammond's money and notoriety has not been kind to him. He suffers from a loss of values...or he pretends to be cool, which is just as disgusting.
He has made a living out of hosting his audience's dream, the car, for decades. Now he is trampling on this dream, and with it the feelings of the viewers.

Of the three previous Top Gear guys the only one I have any respect for is James May.
The other two are simply obnoxious.

I think you’ve said it perfectly there Heinz. Only word I would add somewhere would be “smug” (Hammond, not you Heinz!).

As virtually always, you have exactly expressed my thoughts more eloquently than I could Heinz.
Could I hire you to edit all my posts in future?

James May has done some interesting solo programmes, but the underlying problem with James May is that he's not a petrolhead. His You Tube clips demonstrate that clearly. He has no time for classics and is very pro electric. For me that devalues his "product".

I've never watched The Grand Tour, and I hardly ever watch their old Top Gears now. They have faded into semi obscurity.

Let's face it, presenting car shows is one of the most demanding tickets. We are so hard to please, and so without knowledge and charisma, it just doesn't work.

Top Gear was unwatchable by the time Clarkson canned it, and hasn't been a lot better since. The format is tired, and we don't see any fresh approaches.

As long as the programme has cars in it, I'll watch it. Last night Top Gear - 3 "classic" cars and the new Lamborghini Sian (Aventador) V12 with Lambo's two fingers up to EV's battery pack. Watch all the Grand Tours as well as the American car programmes. Darn sight better than the rest of dancing, baking, pottery and did you know there's a sewing one now as well. Give me Hammond, Clarkson, May (Chris Evans was pushing it) anyday.

Although I agree with the comments on the three ex top gear presenters, it might not be they're real personality's your seeing. The success of the program was down to the chemistry between the school bully, the privileged swot and the wee kid who was the butt of the "jokes". I think they were actors, albeit poor ones. I'm guilty of making the same judgements, Clarkson IS a prat. laugh2

A friend of mine took part in a TV program with a well known celebrity chef who is smiley, chatty and charming on screen, when the cameras were off he was a total c**t to all in the room. He got punched in the street in Aberdeen on a night out, I wonder why. sherlock

I agree and think Hammonds on screen vagueness is all part of his schoolboy Top Gear TV persona. He wasn't like that in his earlier presenting days.
I think Clarkson and May don't have to try too hard and their TV personas are true to life.

I find Hammond almost unwatchable and after watching the interview I don't know if his Plus Six was crashed, crushed, drowned or any combination of the three. And no mention of replacing it with a new Plus Six either.

Has he previously lived in Winchester? It might tally up with a few local observations.

Aren't we being a bit too po faced? It's not a motoring programme, just a bit of fun. Surely we don't want to go back to the dreadful days of William Woollard, Noel Edmonds and Judith Jackson?

Clarkson, May and Hammond are very much cartoon representations of themselves. The same is true of Harris, Flintoff and McGuinness.

What I don't understand is some of the animosity towards Richard Hammond on this thread. He has been very positive about Morgans and his love of them. He has made a big point of actually using his and it not being a garage queen.

Surely if the brand is to survive and prosper we need advocates like him out out there.

Richard, if you are following this thread, I hope that you buy another one and continue to proselytise Morgans!
