+1 ..... I have a video of him speaking on C-SPAN in the USA about a state visit to Japan. He comments that he was asked if this was his first visit to Japan and his response that it was. He felt it would have been insensitive to comment that he was there for the surrendered and then says that this shows he isn't as sensitive as some claim. I was sent it on Whats App, but can't get it off to post a link. He would have been a cracking "after dinner speaker"!!

Thanks for taking the time to relate those stories Bruce, good to hear he could still get down with the lads, always the mark of a good boss. Trust me Phillip would always make a bee-line for the lads in both the forces and in industry and would have them at their ease in seconds. Furthermore he "spoke their language"

Well, the BBC News just now I think, has lost it's way. Too much repeating, too much filling in, too much "this is the anniversary of" rubbish, too many stupid questions.
The Philip thing will monopolise the news until he's buried. So look forward to a shedload of "what Philip did" programmes. You weren't a lone voice by any stretch of the imagination, lets hope they have learnt from it.

I'm delighted that now he is dead many people feel able to share their personal anecdotes: pulled together they show his true character and most will think more highly of him in death than in life. He really didn't care what people thought of him, it seems, as long as he was living to his own high standards. His sense of humour was wonderful, he would have made one hell of a chair on "Have I Got News For You"......

Much better than the rolling eulogy on the BBC. His sense of humour was ace & non PC. Lovely.
