BBC News item today:

"A police officer has kept her job despite urinating in a clothes shop fitting room while drunk off-duty and then lying to her bosses about it. PC Amelia Shearer, 24, of Cleveland Police was found guilty of gross misconduct following the incident in Urban Outfitters in York last year. A disciplinary panel in Middlesbrough found her conduct was discreditable and she had been dishonest. It decided not to sack her but instead issued a final written warning. The panel's chairwoman, Ogheneruona Iguyovwe, said: "There is scope for her to be rehabilitated, there is scope for her to set the record straight and to begin on a new path."

Does anyone remember "gross misconduct" ? Back in the day, it would warrant instant dismissal. Seems we're now more into rehabilitation than summary justice. I do not approve.

"Woke" is a term that I simply can not stand. It is yet another afro-Americanism that has worked its obnoxious way into our language and has become a catch-all for many diverse pressure groups.

While I am at it I have to say that I can't stand "Rap" in all its many forms. For me it has little to do with music and song.

While I am at it I will add another: I find the gratuitous and unnecessary use of the "F" word and expressions like "mother f***ker" in some so called "pop" music offensive. A few years ago one use of the word would have cost a radio station a big fine and sending it to air hundreds of times a day would have cost the loss of the broadcasting licence but today it seems everything is permitted as long as it is not seen a racist or offensive to LGBT people (who, as far as I am concerned, can do whatever they like in their own bedrooms),

I commented the other day on a young bartender wearing a "Never underestimate an old man on a bicycle" T shirt, suggesting he was a little young to wear it. His response was, "my sibling bought it". As I enquired, he offered, "They identify as non-specific gender" whatever that means!

I wouldn’t include this example as wokeness - maybe as a broader issue that I personally don’t recognise as woke. Looked it up on wiki

I sometimes attend our local police misconduct hearings (as is my right) and some of the antics our local plod get up to absolutely staggers me - stalking, possessing Class A's, drunkeness, fighting at weddings and possession of child porn.

I sometimes wonder whose side the Plod are actually on!

Interestingly the plod who tried to fit up my cousin and lost his job over it, is now the security guard at the local supermarket-he's reminded of his fall from grace every time I go shopping....
