I might be able to wait as well Graham but this depends on what unfolds in the next week

As someone else said, the market appears totally dead, nothing moving much at all. Even the timewasters have stopped calling (I almost miss them...) so mine is off the market now, will be serviced at New Elms next week, and I may re-advertise next Spring.
I do wonder if the election is playing a part, and the subsequent budget. As a dealer (not Morgan) told me last week, in his view the generation that was interested in old cars is either moving on (into care homes) or are terrified by the prospect of Labour targeting them for wealth redistribution. And as long as one can get 5% from a bank, the 'cars as investment' spivs are not there to drive market prices or convince those with cash to 'invest' in cars. UK business confidence is apparently low, and people don't buy toys when that is the case.
It does feel to me like a permanent adjustment, rather than a temporary blip.

Not sure that "like" was the appropriate reply Marches Mark.... more that this has been my line of thought for quite a few years now, but it was FUN while it lasted... and I will hang on to it all a bit more, well at least as long as I can.... (-:

Good evening All,
Reading through this all again has been insightful and hoping to get some guidance.
How does one know what is a realistic price for a Trad? I appreciate selling at this time of year won't help so any guidance would be greatly appreciated. I've looked on CarandClassic, Autotrader etc for similar but per this thread, are those to be considered realistic?
I've come to the decision that it's truly time to move on as I simply do not use it. Love it to bits, but it's no longer the right tool for what I need.
Thank you, Perry I think the price you are asking is very realistic but as things are hanging in an unprecedented way right now (I don't see it changing) in the Morgan and toy car world. If you really need to move on 32 would be more of a selling price and prepared to go to 30, painful as that is for such a beautiful well cared for car. Good luck. It's your's for 31 Richard If I had the garage space I would be sorely tempted Perry as it's in my favourite colour and they are a very special edition Any pictures of Perry's car to look at. Obviously not a buyer but I love looking at nice cars.

In the For Sale Chris ❤️ and it’s a real belter.
Just like Crag Jezz’s car immaculate used with care and a special edition this one.
I’m not given to commenting on for sale cars but both of these stunners are an exception, Craig sold his quickly back a bit when the market was beginning to slow.

You guys certainly know how to muddy my waters……..especially as an old lapsed Morganer with an owners dreams ?
From my posts it is obvious I am an old git but I believe with lots of go and and energy. Unfortunately I now hate doing anything mechanical with cars and living in London do not have a workshop or reasonable size garage, even if I wanted to.
So I thought buy a new car. The price seems very excessive even if I bought a new Pinnacle or discounted new unregistered car. Thinking the CX might just be too powerful although I never pranged the 4 Morgans owned and daily use cars over years of driving. Warming to the Plus 4 but not the latest facelift one. Then it’s all about necessary upgrades, significant warranty issues, breakdowns. Never had breakdown problems in the 70s with my Morgan’s.
Then I thought you guys are right, do up the 79 Plus 8. Time is not on my side. want to motor in Europe regularly . I am now also wondering how much will it cost to do it up . . Will I be better off buying a good second hand Morgan, up and running quickly. The car stands me at nothing really, it was super cheap by todays prices. Then there is all this thought provoking posts on value, realistic second hand values. In light of all these factors would : Anyone like to have a stab at the very max you would spend on a 79 Plus 8 before thinking, sod it buy something newer. Forget the individual necessary things needed - what figure would be OK and after that, move on buy a newer car as prices are depressed ? Love your views. MM

Isn't it more a question of on what you are going to spend the money on. The question I would be trying to answer is how much do you need to spend to make it reliable and safe, to get it up and running and safely driveable again. There's potentially a big difference between the cost of a deep recommissioning and a part or full restoration. I certainly doubt a part or full restoration cost will ever be reflected in increased value in todays markets.

Anyone like to have a stab at the very max you would spend on a 79 Plus 8 before thinking, sod it buy something newer. It's an interesting question - you could spend £30K doing up your +8 to good working condition, and it would be a far better and reliable option than a £25K newer car that could break down minutes out of the showroom.....

Preferred TBM answer and it fits with my thinking but respect view of someone who realised Lancashire was a nice place to live. I don’t see the car as an asset. It’s stands me mentally at zero £ So whatever it takes to get it running well is not an issue because I would not look to sell it or even look or care about value.. It is just what is the correct decision - possibly the sensible value decision - do up or just buy something much much newer or even new.
I really don’t want to be breaking down, spending time under the bonnet . I just want to be able to travel abroad with no motoring issues. I thought new would definitely be the right way until joining this forum.
If I go with doing it up, like getting it to brake and stop, power steering , suspension upgrades,.It uses to shake but that was solved, could I ask a real favour.. Hope this is allowed on the forum . Happy if it starts minor banter/argument/discussion/alternative views . Could you really knowledgable guys and there seem many, provide a list of things to do mechanically, with supplier recommendations and someone who would do the work. It will need re upholstery and painting as well. The leather was rubbish when new. Called into a car dealer/ repairer on the A30 (?) earlier this year due to an accident near Stonehenge and he had a lot of Morgans, some for sale on commission and might be someone to talk to re mechanical.
Your knowledge would be invaluable and would be very much appreciated . MM

From a northern prospective, before you make the decision on the best way forward...have you answered the basic home truth can you still get in and out of a short door Morgan, and come to that a long door Morgan, it might just influence the decision making process! Best of luck with what ever route you take, quite a interesting opportunity of doing continental journeys, just make sure comfort is part of the solution as our resilience tends to subside as we age.
I openly admit I would struggle with a short door today, which was no problem for me 30 nearly 40 odd. years ago, I struggle with a long door following a fall a few years ago, and know at some point before long within a few years I may have to call my trad Morgan day as over I shall enjoy it whilst I can and then move onto the next adventure/chapter, just being a practical and pragmatic northerner.
All the best.
