I'm collecting my nearly new BYD Seal on Wednesday/Thursday.
The Tesla Model 3 is still probably the best electric car in it's class, but the looks don't appeal to me, particularly the interior. I saw a BYD Seal on the road and thought it was the sedan version of the Lotus EV SUV; the design language, at least to my eyes, looks very similar and certainly translated better in the format of a sedan. As for Tesla, I wonder how long the Musk effect will last. There is no doubt they make a good product in the EV segment but how many people will avoid it because of the man and, if so, for how long?

I'm guessing Simon for quite a while given his links (even if now it seems broken ) to Trump who is crashing the world economy.

Loads of very fancy tech to be sure, and 4-wheel independent steering and motors gives it amazing agility. but if the autopilot insists on power sliding it into tight parking spaces I'd be worried about tyre life. I'd not heard of the BYD Seal, it looks very swanky Whoever makes a Skoda Yeti/Dacia Duster level EV with 300 miles range for under £12k Yep, whoever manages that is going to clean up. Even 200 mile range would be more than enough for most people if they can recharge at 150kW Edit to add: Looks like they are nearly there, check out some of these: https://electricmotorfeed.com/exploring-the-cheapest-electric-vehicles-in-china/But the names! Fancy driving a Dongfeng Four Thing Thunder of a Wuling Bingo?

Allegedly they keep costs down by making most parts of their cars themselves.

I'm afraid I would struggle to persuade myself to buy a car that was called a Build Your Dreams. or even a YangWang U7 - more market research needed for UK maybe ![[Linked Image]](https://series2club.co.uk/2023_new_forum/Smileys/wittsends/nixweiss.gif)

My battery packs on the Solar were BYD, at less than 8 years use they were completely shot, not even 10% charge held, & would die just standing idle
Perhaps that's why their EV's are so low priced ??

My hairdresser told me she had sold her Tesla and had a new BYD on order (for far less) because it had a much nicer interior ...

Perhaps that's why their EV's are so low priced ?? Blimey, that's bad. Presumably they were replaced under warranty? My LG LiPo batteries are guaranteed to still have 90% capacity after 15 years.

That is bad. Did they give any explanation ? Their EV's appear to have a decent reputation regarding battery life and they also supply batteries for several other car makers, including Tesla. They claim to keep costs down by making substantially more of their car components in-house than their competitors. They're not particularly low-priced compared, to say, Tesla.

It's a waaay too long and painful story but basically NO, and because 'new' batteries won't talk to old invertors or the BMS it was a full strip out and replace everything except the roof panels, additional external earthing and upgraded proper mains whole house smoke alarms to comply with the latest PAS 63100:2024 recommendations
